Position title: Communications Young Professional

Location: Chiang Mai, Thailand or remote working

Travel: NA

Reports to: Mekong Communications Manager

Duration: 6 months

Organizational Summary

EarthRights International is a non-governmental, non-profit organization that combines the power of law and the power of people in defense of human rights and the environment, which we define as “earth rights.” A key part of who we are organizationally is our three-pronged approach to making change: training of community and legal activists, strategic legal work in defense of human rights and demanding corporate accountability, and campaigns to promote systemic governmental and corporate policy change. Our work focuses on climate justice and accountability, earth rights defenders, and corporate accountability.

 

EarthRights is currently seeking a Communication Young Professional to join our Communications Team, based in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

 

Summary of position

Communications Young Professional will support our internal and external communications strategies and action. We welcome applications from skilled early-career or aspiring media and communications professionals who want to contribute to positive change for people and the planet.

 

The position contributes to the work that EarthRights does in the core thematic areas introduced above. This is an opportunity for a skilled early career professional to learn on the job and enhance their skills both in communications and influencing for positive social change.

 

They will write, design, produce, or support content gathering and research to help EarthRights reach our key audiences, including the public, partners, media, and our staff. They will facilitate communications production processes.

 

Roles and responsibilities

With the guidance and support of the Communication Manager, they will:

  • Develop/ or contribute to developing messages, stories, and communications for internal and external audiences by working with EarthRights staff and partners.

  • Support content for the website and social media, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn.

  • Assist the production of our bi-monthly e‐newsletter

  • Develop visual content, including share graphics and infographics following EarthRights brand guidance.

  • Support in producing media and social media analyses.

  • Support in managing EarthRights visual media assets.

  • Support content research to facilitate communications products such as op-eds, press releases, reports, etc.

  • Support on and offline event organization and coordination.

  • Support media and partner engagement.

  • Support administrative work/basic documentation/compilation with regards to communications projects.

Essential skills and experiences

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent academic/professional qualification in communication, marketing, journalism, or related field.

  • One year or more experience working in communications. As this is an early career opportunity, we will consider academic, voluntary, or self-initiated creative projects.

  • Proven skills in writing, media research, design, and multimedia content creation.

  • Skills in using communication tools for graphic design and content development.

  • Sound understanding, skills, and experience with social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • A commitment to protecting and standing up for human rights and the environment.

  • Flexibility, adaptability, creativity, and effectiveness in working collaboratively in a multicultural team.

  • Good analytical, organization, and coordination skills.
