Hiring Thai Translator to translate the FAIR Fish Pilot Model of Responsible Recruitment Manual and its annexes

1. Project Background

Plan International Thailand (Plan) is implementing a four-year project, Fostering Accountability in Recruitment for Fishery Workers (FAIR Fish), to reduce forced labor and human trafficking (FL/HT) in the recruitment of women and men in the seafood processing sector in Thailand to support the United States Department of Labor (DOL) Bureau of International Labor Affairs’ (ILAB) Office of Child Labor, Forced Labor and Human Trafficking (OCFT).

To reduce and eliminate forced labor and human trafficking in the recruitment of workers as well as providing guidance on the recommended processes and practices to relevant stakeholders, the project has developed FAIR Fish Pilot Model of Responsible Recruitment Manual (hereinafter called “Manual”) for the stakeholders, primarily seafood small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and secondarily for their recruiters. The Manual covers the background and methods of recruitment practices in Thailand, process and steps of recruitment of migrant workers, responsible recruitment model, the complying process of responsible recruitment standards and practices, grievance mechanisms and remediation strategies, and the process of due diligence. In addition, the Manual also includes the useful tools for any companies who want to apply the responsible recruitment process into their recruitment practices.

2. Task Requirements

1. Translate the Manual and annexes from English into Thai.

Approximately 30,117 words.

1. Revise the translated document as per Plan’s comments to ensure that the translation is accurate and consistent.

3. Deliverables

The translator is expected to submit the following deliverables in MS Word files, using TH Sarabun New font at size of 16 points to Plan as follows:

3. Translated Manual and annexes in Thai are expected to be submitted to Plan International Thailand within 15 days after the source documents in English are sent to the translator.

3. Revised translated Manual within 7 days after receiving inputs on the translation from Plan.

4. Qualifications and Experience

4.1 At least a Bachelor’s degree

4.2 Prior experience in the translation of documents from English into Thai, preferably issues related to migrant workers, work instruction, manual, recruitment process and social compliance.

5. Payment and Payment Schedule

Fees will be paid upon the satisfactory completion of the deliverables as previously specified in Item no. 3.

6. How to apply

• Submit to the Plan International Thailand’s senior procurement officer, Mr Supornchai Nawataweeporn via email at supornchai.nawataweeporn@plan-international.org the following documents:

  • 1) CV in English,

  • 2) At least two samples of the previous translation work from English to Thai (both source text and translated text), and

  • 3) a quotation indicating the translation rate in Thai baht per English word in the source documents by April 1, 2021

• Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted and asked to take an online written test by translating a half-page document.
