  1. OVERVIEW

Save the Children (SC) has been working in Thailand for over three decades. In 2019, SC Thailand had an annual budget of approximately USD $5.5 million and implemented programs directly benefitting over 340,000 children in the areas of education, child protection, humanitarian response, and child health and safety.

Save the Children Thailand is seeking a consultant(s) to support its resource mobilization efforts in Thailand. Under this TOR, SC Thailand is seeking consultant(s) to undertake two assignments. Prospective consultants may wish to undertake either one or both of the assignments.

  1. CONSULTANCY OBJECTIVES

Multinational Corporate Donors:

The purpose of consultancy service provider is to research and identify at least 25 multinational companies working in Thailand or interested to invest in country that could be potential donors who are aligned with Save the Children’s focus on children as well as other criteria set out by SC Thailand (eg. They must pass SC’s due diligence requirements). A key deliverable of this consultancy is a mapping of corporate donors that includes data on (at a minimum) the following:

  • Size of CSR budget.
  • Funding priorities, sectors and/or geographic areas
  • Grantees in Asia (with a focus on Thailand) and size of grants
  • Application process, contact information, websites with relevant data
  • Headquarters location
  • Any existing relationship with SC
  • Contacts

The list of potential corporate donors should be segmented by tiers indicating those donors with the highest potential. The consultant is then expected to meet with SC Thailand to determine how best to approach the donors and detail a 6-12-month engagement plan. The consultant should, to the extent possible, analyze the information gathered and identify themes or trends in the corporate philanthropic sector and present his/her findings, recommendations and engagement plan in a power point presentation to SC Thailand

Domestic Fundraising:

The purpose of consultancy service provider is to conduct a literature review of domestic fundraising to date; and, to identify and conduct face to face interviews of at least 15 international organizations, foundations and NGOs currently fundraising domestically in Thailand to understand the following:

  • the scope and scale of their fundraising
  • different fundraising channels including their success/failures
  • different types of donors and how they have performed over last 5 years
  • levels of investment and returns
  • challenges experienced and any other insights in the domestic fundraising market.

SC is interested in understanding the above mentioned in relation to both domestic fundraising to benefit Thailand-based project and domestic fundraising to respond to other timely appeals/program throughout the world. Therefore, SC expects findings to be disaggregated. The consultant is expected to summarize the findings of the literature review, write up case studies of each IO/INGO interviewed, analyse the trends, issues and experiences and also present his/her findings as well as recommendations as to how SC Thailand should enter the domestic fundraising market.
