Thomson Reuters Foundation

Paid Internship, Bangkok

The Thomson Reuters Foundation is a non-profit that leverages the reach and reputation of Thomson Reuters to run free programmes that promote the highest standards in journalism and spread excellence in the practice of legal pro bono. We are the corporate foundation of Thomson Reuters, the global news and information services company. As an independent charity, registered in the UK and the USA, we work to advance media freedom, foster more inclusive economies, and promote human rights. Through news, media development, free legal assistance and convening initiatives, we combine our unique services to drive systemic change. Our mission is to use the combined power of journalism and the law to build global awareness of critical issues faced by humanity, inspire collective leadership and help shape a prosperous world where no one is left behind.

TrustLaw is the Thomson Reuters Foundation’s global pro bono service that links NGOs and social enterprises with the best law firms around the world, with a mission to spread the practice of pro bono and drive social change. It is a free service (for both law firms and the NGOs/social enterprises we support) which connects lawyers in over 175 countries with high-impact organizations that require pro bono legal assistance.

We are looking for a dynamic and proactive intern to support our award winning TrustLaw service, supporting in particular our Asia Pacific (APAC) team. This paid internship is for a 12-week period (November – January or February 2021). In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the successful candidate might likely be working remotely for all or most of the internship.

We will co-create and agree timelines, plans and learning outcomes for each project. We expect the projects to include:

  • Impact stories: collecting feedback from NGOs and social enterprises for the purpose of leveraging their work with impact stories;

  • Mapping and Outreach: mapping by researching and engaging with both new and existing TrustLaw members in APAC to expand TrustLaw’s reach;

  • Events management: supporting the logistics and coordination of the organisation and delivery of virtual events such as roundtables, legal workshops and webinars; and

  • COVID-19 Pro Bono Response and other strategic projects: supporting our various initiatives through data collation and compilation, research and short drafts.

The position would suit someone:

  • Highly motivated with an ability to work independently, contribute ideas and learn new things;

  • Aiming to gain experience in the non-profit sector, with a personal interest in social, humanitarian and/or environmental issues;

  • With first-class written and interpersonal communication skills; and

  • Fluent in English.

The following are helpful, but not essential:

  • Working knowledge of Thai or other Southeast Asian languages (strongly preferred);

  • Familiarity with Google Suite, Microsoft Teams, Excel and/or Salesforce; and

  • Experience with pro bono or working with lawyers or legal teams.

To express interest, send your CV and cover letter confirming your dates of availability (including expected weekly availability) and describing how you meet the specifications for this role to amelie.desjardins@thomsonreuters.com with subject line "Internship Application APAC Fall 2020”.

Please note that the Thomson Reuters Foundation cannot provide or assist with any visa sponsorship or application and the candidate will be asked to show proof that they can legally do an internship in Thailand. We are looking to recruit as soon as possible, so we ask all interested candidates to forward their application without delay.
