The Rotary Peace Center at Chulalongkorn University seeks a Deputy Director to provide leadership and management skills for an international training program in peace and development. The program supports The Rotary Foundation’s commitment to bring about positive social change, and toinvest in the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of mid-career professionals who demonstrate a clear commitment to the creation of systems that will support resilient, prosperous, and just societies.

 

The Rotary Peace Centerat Chulalongkorn University attracts professionals working in all sectors related to internationalrelations and development, peaceandconflictpreventionandresolution. Ourfellowsarecommittedtocommunityandinternationalserviceandthepursuitofpeace.Each year, the Rotary Peace Center hosts two program sessions with up to 20 fellows per session; one beginning in January, and another beginning in June. This position will be based in Bangkok, Thailand and will serve as the Center’s primary contactwith The Rotary Foundation in the United States. The Deputy Director will report to the Center Director, and will be supported by an administrative team.

 

Duties:

Program Development

  • Contact qualified lecturers based on recommendations of the academic committee and organize each session’s schedule
  • Work closely with faculty and guest lecturers who develop and teach program modules and be responsible for the overall coherence of the curriculum
  • Coordinate the production of the program manual describing the overall training process, its objectives, coverage, assignment procedures, evaluations, and selected reading lists
  • Provide support for the training sessions of the Rotary Peace Center;teach one or more courses within the discipline in which the candidate has the appropriate academic or professional expertise
  • Organize field studiesfor each session – one domestic field study within Thailand, and one regional field study within southeast Asia

 

Program Administration

  • With Center Director, review applications for the Rotary Peace Fellowship and select each cohort of fellows in accordance with guidelines and procedures from The Rotary Foundation
  • Act as a liaison to The Rotary Foundation, the Center’s Host Area Coordinator and local Rotarians, and Chulalongkorn University
  • Oversee social change initiative implementation period for each cohort, including monitoring fellows' engagement with mentors and participation in online sessions
  • Manage any fellow complaints or academic/behavioral issues that may arise during the on-site program, including any health or safety emergencies
  • Collect evaluations from lecturers and students periodically during each session to ensure program satisfaction and effectiveness; communicate all evaluation results to The Rotary Foundation
  • Lead alumni relations and Center promotion activities
  • Manage the capstone seminar week with Rotarian Host Area Coordinator
  • Assist the Center Director in convening regular advisory board meetings with academic and administrative committees.

 

Supervisory Responsibility

  • Supervises workload, productivity and outputs for five staff members as well as coordination of program logistics

 

Budget Responsibility

  • Coordinates the submission and approval of the administrative and program budgets to Director for annual expenditures
  • Works closely with Center Accountant to ensure monitoring and reporting of Center’s financial standing to The Rotary Foundation; prepares annual budget forecast and requests adjustments to the Center’s stipends as necessary and in accordance with the terms of the Center’s agreement with The Rotary Foundation
  • Oversees preparation of annual budget reports and coordinates preparation of financial materials for audits if requested by The Rotary Foundation

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience and training/education in peace and conflict studies, development, human rights or a related field is essential
  • Master’s degree or above in same field; knowledge of peace and conflict research field, especially in the Southeast Asian region
  • Exceptionally strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills;
  • Well-developed supervisory and management skills
  • Excellent writing and oral skills in English

 

Salary: Negotiable based on experience and qualifications
