Description of task:
The UN Volunteer, as part of the Climate Change team for Asia and the Pacific Office, will provide support to project management, technical and outreach activities for the successful execution of the Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF) project ‘Ecosystem-based Adaptation in the Asia-Pacific region’ (‘Urban EbA Asia’). The aim of the Urban EbA Asia project is to reduce the vulnerability of poor urban communities in Asia-Pacific Least Developed Countries (LDCs) to climate change impacts using Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA), with interventions in selected municipalities in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Bhutan and Myanmar. Each of the four countries will benefit from the regional components that include institutional strengthening and capacity building of city management authorities in pilot cities to plan and implement urban EbA; and disseminating knowledge and raising public awareness on urban EbA in pilot cities.
UNV tasks include supporting awareness and outreach of the project activities, EbA solutions, and outputs and technical support to starting up and advancing country-level activities related to vulnerability mapping for identification of Urban EbA interventions, and development of livelihood plans. The UNV will also be responsible for designing and managing a system of internal communications to facilitate knowledge-sharing between the four countries, and between other Urban EbA projects under UNEP’s portfolio (including in Nepal, Laos, and Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region).
Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Regional Technical Expert (RTE), Urban EbA Asia project or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Urban Climate Change Adaptation Specialist will:
Qualifications/Requirements
Required degree level: Master’s degree or equivalent in urban studies, urban planning, environmental management, climate change or related subject.
Required experiences:
Area of expertise: Sustainable natural resources management and climate change adaptation
Language skills: English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
Competencies values: Communication, Integrity, Planning and Organizing, Professionalism, Working in Teams
Conditions of Service:
The contract lasts for the period indicated above with possibility of extensions subject to availability of funding, operational necessity and satisfactory performance. However, there is no expectation of renewal of the assignment.
Travel to duty station (if applicable) and a Settling-ln-Grant will be provided in the event the duty station is not within commuting distance from the place of recruitment. The applicable Volunteer Living Allowance is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities and normal cost of living expenses. Life, health and permanent disability insurance are included (health insurance for up to 3 dependents), as well as final repatriation (if applicable) and resettlement allowance for satisfactory service.
Furthermore, in non-family duty stations that belong to hardship categories D or E, as classified by the ICSC, a Well-Being Differential (WBD) on a monthly basis will be provided.
