Type of Appointment:  Part-time, approximately two days per week

Mekong Partnership for the Environment (MPE) – GeoJournalism Website Project

Internews seeks a part-time News & Content Editor for our upcoming GeoJournalism website. The positions supports the Media and Communications Director to continually update the site by aggregating external content and generating/overseeing original content, including news stories, analysis, features, maps and infographics. S/he should have a journalism/communications background with experience reporting on environmental and development issues. MPE aims to advance informed dialogues between government, civil society, and private sector stakeholders to enhance responsible development in the Mekong region. To support that goal, we aim to improve access to quality information on the social and environmental costs and benefits of regional development projects and their decision-making processes. The MPE project is led by Pact and other international non-governmental organisation partners including Internews, with funds provided by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Support the Media and Communications Director in editorial vision and oversight, developing news partnerships, and gathering and generation of content for the GeoJournalism website

Research, select, summarise and upload stories for aggregation on the GeoJournalism site

Oversee translation of stories, including working with translators

Write, develop or oversee information tools such as articles, explainers, commentary, “listicles” and infographics

Integrate news with maps, multi-media and infographics

Fact check and edit stories for content and style

Advise on development and presentation of stories funded by MPE, and mentor reporters, as needed

Other duties as assigned

 

EDUCATION AND ABILITIES

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as journalism, communications, mass media or environmental studies

A minimum of five years of experience in journalism, with editorial experience

Organised and detail oriented and with the ability to handle multiple deadlines and a variety of tasks

Excellent writing and editing skills and strong news and visual instincts

High level of proficiency in verbal and written English required. Fluency in Thai, Vietnamese, Burmese and/or Khmer preferred

Proficiency with web management applications required

Demonstrated understanding of environmental and development issues in the Mekong region

Experience with data and geospatial tools is a plus
