ICJ Internship

The International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) is a worldwide network of judges and lawyers working to promote and protect human rights and the rule of law.

The ICJ is looking for one motivated and enthusiastic Thai national for the Thailand Internship programme.

ICJ Internship provides a solid introduction to the world of human rights and the rule of law. You will get to meet fascinating people, take part in interesting activities and experience first hand the workings of an international human rights organization. The internship will be based at the ICJ’s Asia & Pacific Regional Office in Bangkok.

Responsibilities

The Intern will join a dynamic team of four lawyers working on human rights in Thailand.  The Intern will be expected to contribute to all the activities of the Thailand team as required, including:

  • Legal research and writing;
  • Observing trials;
  • Translating material from Thai to English and English to Thai;
  • Attending meetings including with civil society, government officials and judges;
  • Monitoring the Thai and international media;
  • Joining field-trips; and
  • Assisting with the organization of workshops.

The Thailand team will endeavor to maximize the Intern’s exposure to the work of an international human rights organization by involving the Intern in as many activities as possible.

Requirements


Interns are expected to:

 

  • hold a degree in law;
  • be well organised, motivated and dedicated to human rights and the rule of law;
  • be able to work as part of a multicultural team and be willing to apply themselves in a busy environment;
  • have spoken and written fluency in English and Thai; and
  • be willing and able to travel throughout Thailand, including to the deep South.


Durations (six months)
             

 

15 March – 15 October 2017 (dates are flexible)

12 days, in addition to the ICJ Thailand Office’s holidays.

 

Financial support

 

 

  • Monthly allowance to cover travel and incidental expenses;
  • Accommodation and two domestic flights for the resident living outside Bangkok; and
  • English course
