Soi Dog Foundation is the largest animal welfare organisation in Asia dedicated to helping stray dogs and cats. Soi Dog Foundation sterilises, vaccinates, administers medical treatment, shelters, promotes adoption of stray dogs and cats in Thailand, and runs education programmes on animal welfare. Soi Dog Foundation is also actively working to end South East Asia’s dog meat trade, and is expanding within South East Asia, having recently opened an operation in Vietnam.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title and Summary: The Shelter Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Soi Dog Foundation shelter in Phuket. This person manages animal care staff, medical volunteers (with the exception of veterinarians), and daily shelter services in support of the organization’s mission. The Shelter Manager works to ensure the continued evolution of the Soi Dog Foundation shelter to provide humane and high-quality care for sick and injured animals, facilitate overseas and local adoptions, and support the sterilization of stray dogs and cats.
This staff member provides positive leadership for the efficient and smooth functioning of all shelter operations, in accordance with established policies and procedures. This person develops and maintains effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, and the public.
Key Responsibilities:
Management & Supervision
- Directs the daily operations of the shelter; oversees animal care.
- Ensures that accurate and complete medical records for Soi Dog Foundation animals are maintained.
- Responsible for hiring, supervising, promoting, disciplining, and terminating staff members as well as for providing regular, on-going feedback and timely evaluations.
- Responsible for enforcing policies and protocols relating to animal care.
- Monitors safety compliance of staff and volunteers.
- Evaluates new and on-going shelter projects regularly to determine and implement needed changes.
- Inspects all shelter areas to ensure work is accomplished, animals cared for appropriately, and that the facility is sanitary.
- Assures staff rabies post-exposure prophylaxis is performed when necessary.
- Assures the clinic phone is answered during operating hours.
- Assists the Mobile Clinic Manager when necessary.
- Works cooperatively and professionally with the veterinarians.
Animal Care
- Assesses the general health of the shelter animals on a regular basis to identify signs of stress, illness, injury, aggressive tendencies and abnormal behaviors.
- Monitors group-housed animals for signs of aggression and makes housing changes accordingly.
- Maintains that all animals live in a clean, comfortable living environment.
- Mitigates feline stress in both colony rooms and individually housed cats through implementing housing improvements when needed and assuring appropriate groupings of cats.
Shelter Operations
- Responsible for managing the overall population/number of animals on-site through population rounds.
- Completes daily population rounds with the veterinarian responsible for C runs, cat hospital, and the clinic. These rounds are performed daily to ensure that each animal, each day, receives the care and attention it needs to move safely and efficiently as possible through the shelter to facilitate a timely release.
- Is familiar with all operational aspects and long-term residents of the Cat and Dog Hospital.
- Assists with local and overseas adoptions as required.
- Maintains equipment as needed.
- Oversees animal receiving/intake, and ensures that the public is provided accurate information.
- Assures that community concerns regarding stray animals are answered in a timely fashion.
- Reconciles animal inventory when necessary.
- Assures humane animal handling practices are used at both the shelter and during transport to and from the shelter.
- Assures sterility in the surgical suites.
- Oversees inventories and ordering of shelter supplies and equipment and assures that appropriate quantities of all supplies are on hand at all times. Assesses inventory of commonly depleted supplies such as anesthetic agents when necessary.
- Participates in special projects as needed, including but not limited to mobile clinics and operations in Bangkok and Buriram.
- Meets with Director of Animal Welfare to develop and implement long-range programs.
- Serves as a liaison between the veterinarians and animal rescue officers to assure timely return of animals to the field.
- Communicates with the Mobile Clinic Manager to facilitate the transport and care of animals from the field to the shelter

Skills and Qualifications:
- Thai Nationality
- A college degree in business administration, animal science, or a closely related field is require. Experience working with animals (particularly in a shelter environment) is a MUST.
- Experience in a managerial role at an animal nonprofit or rescue organization is require.
- Good communication skills, as shelter managers must interact regularly with staff members and the public.
- Primarily work routine office hours but some evening and weekend hours may be necessary depending on the shelter’s operating schedule.
