INVITE TO PROPOSE TRAINING COURSE FOR PRACTICAL TRAINING ON INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE FOR SOLAR SYSTEM AND WATER FILTERING SYSTEM IN RESOURCE POOR AREAS AT KAREN AGRICULTURAL DEPARTMENT TRAINING CENTER ALONG THE MYANMAR – THAILAND BORDER

SCOPE OF WORK

Practical training on installation and maintenance for solar system and water filtering system in resource poor areas at Karen Agricultural Department training center along the Myanmar – Thailand border

 

Background of the project:

Under the USAID-funded Project for Local Empowerment (PLE), the International Rescue Committee (IRC), together with partners Mae Tao Clinic (MTC), The Border Consortium (TBC) and World Education (WE), supports a network of more than 30 border-based community-based organizations (CBOs) to provide life-saving health and education services, emergency cash and food relief, livelihood programs including trainings, organization development for CBOs  and protection assistance to conflict-affected people living in four states and two regions in South East Burma, as well as for migrants and refugees living in six provinces and nine camps in Thailand. PLE provides impactful and cost-effective humanitarian assistance on both sides of the Thailand-Burma border by building the technical, management, and leadership capacities of CBO partners to deliver health, education, legal, and protection services, women’s protection and empowerment services, distribute food and cash transfers, implement livelihoods activities and trainings, and advocate for lasting positive change for displaced Burmese.

PLE partners with Karen Agricultural Department to train community members to use appropriate technologies in their local community for livelihood activities and disseminate the skills to their community members.

 

Objectives:

General: 

Participants of the Karen Agricultural Department (KAD) Training Center at Myanmar – Thailand Border will have theoretical and practical knowledge on the installation and maintenance of renewable energy systems - with special focus on solar energy – and water filtration for rural communities in resource poor areas in south eastern Myanmar.

 

Specific:

  1. Provide training material for the installation and continued use in the training center for energy supply and water consumption
  2. Provide practical maintenance training
  3. Provide training materials in local language (Karen and/or Burmese) and diagrams that are easily understood by local community members
  4. Provide all trainings in local languages (Karen and/or Burmese) without additional translation
  5. Trainers and assistant trainers should be 4 to 5 people to facilitate at least 20 trainees.
  6. The training and installation should be conducted between October 24 to 28, 2016 or as soon as possible afterwards but no later than November 15, 2016

Deliverable

  • At least five days training (theory and practical demonstration) in at the KAD training center along the Thailand - Myanmar border
    • Basic calculation of energy demand
    • Wiring and installation
    • Maintenance
  • Installation of a solar system in the training center (at least 2 solar panels including charge controllers, inverters, batteries, breakers and surge protectors, wiring and other necessary material to utilize solar panels
  • Foundation and roofing for protection of the electric system
  • Installation of a biochar water filter for the provision of clean drinking water
  • Ethnic language training manual (at least 30 copies)
  • Delivery of all necessary material to be ready for the training

Pre-collaboration activities:

  • Meeting with PLE Livelihood coordinator and prepare course and delivery of detailed curriculum and work plan

Post – collaboration activities:

  • Provide refresher training as necessary at the KAD Center or in the other communities (separate TOR need to be established)
  • Provide similar deliverables in other border areas (separate TOR need to be established)

Additional requirements

  • Service provider must have a track record of working with Karen and/or other ethnic groups along the Thailand – Myanmar border providing training and on the installation of renewable energy systems
