Founded in 1922 by 15 human rights groups, FIDH now unites 178 national organizations from 117 countries to collaborate on strategies and activities to promote universal human rights standards. FIDH acts with its member and partner organizations to monitor, document, and alert the international community on human rights violations focusing on six priority areas: protecting and supporting human rights defenders; promoting women’s rights; promoting migrants’ rights; building and utilizing effective justice systems to bring perpetrators to justice; strengthening respect for human rights in the context of globalization; and supporting victims of serious violations in times of conflict or transition.

FIDH is undertaking a project that aims at documenting prison conditions in Thailand and bringing the situation to the attention of various key national and international stakeholders in a bid to improve prison conditions for inmates.

FIDH is looking for a consultant who will be involved in conducting interviews and research on prison conditions in selected facilities in Thailand. The consultant will be under the supervision of the Director of Asia Desk - Southeast Asia.

The ideal candidate is a highly motivated individual with previous experience conducting field research, a passion for human rights and a commitment to promoting the values of FIDH. He/she should be a native Thai speaker, with a good command of written and spoken English, good computers skills, and the ability to gather, analyze, and present information in a timely and well-organized manner.

The consultant will be required to complete the following activities:

Travel to two selected prison facilities in Thailand to conduct interviews and research on prison conditions within the facility.

Document and present findings and contribute to the drafting of a report in English.

Conduct desk research on issues related to prison conditions in Thailand.

Conduct interviews with former prisoners, authorities, and any other relevant stakeholders.

Perform any other necessary tasks for the completion of the project.

CONDITIONS

Duration: Three months.

Start date: Thursday, September 1, 2016.

Monthly remuneration: 30,000 THB.

Reimbursement of transportation and accommodation expenses incurred to conduct research.
