1. Introduction

Currently, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) continuously contribute their effort and expertise toward socio-economic development of the Lower Mekong Sub-region (LMS) namely Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam. CSOs in LMS countries have proficiently practical skills and experiences on variety of development issues but there are still an area of development for their organization sustainability, which innovation is considering as a mechanism to facilitate the improvement.

 

According, the USAID-funded Civil Society Partnership Project (CSPP) implemented by Khon Kaen University’s Center for Civil Society and Nonprofit Management (CSNM),  innovation is not only limited to technology but also cover aspects as follow:

A product that can be introduced to society or be capable to scaled-up, for example, an online training course or mobile application that related to main project activity or objective of CSOs.

A process or a methodology that establish a co-creation platform for sharing knowledge and experience, discussing on problem or generating solution.

Models and tools that provide an alternative way and to leverage CSOs capacity on their work and organizational management.

 

Thus, there are an option for CSOs to be innovated at work, to be responded to dynamic world and to sustain their organizations. A well-designed innovation is able to support CSOs in term of effectiveness and efficiency of project activities, practices and professionalism.

 

Thus, to facilitate knowledge and to leverage higher capacity of CSOs in LMS, the USAID-funded Civil Society Partnership Project (CSPP) implemented by Khon Kaen University’s Center for Civil Society and Nonprofit Management (CSNM) is organizing a series of Lower Mekong Sub-region Innovation Workshop for Civil Society Organizations. The workshop aims to empower CSO capacity on applying innovation into their works as well as to establish an innovation network for CSOs to exchange knowledge and practices. The first LMS Innovation workshop was held on August 2015 at Khon Kaen province, Thailand with inviting CSO leaders in the Lower Mekong Sub-region to share and learn about capacity building and innovation for CSO leaders. As planned, CSPP will organize the second regional LMS innovation workshop on September 2016.

 

2. Objectives

To explore current practices and capacities of CSOs in Lower Mekong Sub-region countries.

To provide knowledge based for CSOs for designing, developing and implementing their innovation ideas or plans at their organizations.

To promote innovation for developing work of CSOs.

To establish an innovation network of CSOs in Lower Mekong Subregion.

 

3. Expected Outcome

Participants have an innovative concept idea to be further developed for their works or organizations.

Participants are able to apply knowledge, models and tools acquire at the LMS innovation workshop for their future use in designing, developing and implementing their innovative ideas or plans at their organizations.

The LMS network for participants to exchange idea, sharing knowledge and experience related to an innovation issues.

 

 4. Language

            The LMS innovation workshop will be conducted in English.

 

 5. Target participants

Participants are the invited representative from 25-30 Civil Society Organizations in Cambodia, Lao, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, including:

Participants from the first CSPP LMS Innovation workshop for their continuous learning.

Participants from the LMS CSO professional working group for expanding knowledge to their CSO network.

Participants from CSPP CSO core partner who are familiar with English usage.

Participants from CSOs in LMS with interest in developing an innovative concept idea.

The selected CSOs could be a small or medium size organization (community based organizations, non-governmental organizations, charitable organizations, professional associations, foundations, clubs and welfare societies etc.) with possibility to adapt knowledge from an innovation workshop for developing their current and future activity and management.

Participants would be at managerial or operational level who familiar with management of their organizations.

 

6. Roles of facilitator (s)

    The tasks are expected from the selected researcher(s) as follow:

 

            Before the workshop

Design outline, contents, case studies/best practices/examples, tools and/or models for the LMS CSO innovation workshop.

Present and work in collaboration with CSPP on finalizing workshop outline, session plan, content, tool, and/or model for participants to learn and develop their innovative concepts /ideas.

Prepare and provide workshop printed material/ manual for participants.

Prepare pre and post-test to evaluate learning achievement of participants.

 

 

At the workshop

Conduct a 2-day interactive LMS innovation workshop.

Facilitate an interactive discussion among participants on their challenges, capacity, plan, and idea for developing innovation at their organizations.

Present and provide a workshop outline, content, tool, and/or model for participants to learn and develop their innovative concepts /ideas.

Provide guidance to participants on using tools/models to generate their innovative plans/ideas.

Collect feedbacks and comments from participants at the workshop.

Conduct pre and post-test to evaluate learning achievement of participants.

 

           After the workshop

Consolidate information from the workshop and submit a final report including recommendations for CSPP to work further on innovation issue with CSOs.

          Remark

English is the language using for conducting a LMS CSO innovation workshop and for submitting a final report.

 

7. Timeframe

An expected date for conducting the LMS CSO innovation workshop is in September 2016 (The first two weeks of September).

The submission of the final report should not be later than 2 weeks after conducting workshop.

 

8. Location

Location of the LMS CSO Innovation Workshop will be in Bangkok.

 

 

9. Deliverables

 

  Information document

An individual result of pre and post-test of participants.

A final report in English should contain

Content, outline, contents, case studies/best practices/examples, tools and/or models of the LMS CSO innovation workshop.

Main discussion points, feedbacks and comments from participants at the workshop.

for CSPP to work further on innovation issue with CSOs.

           

   Remarks: Deliverables can be submitted in electronic version and scanned document.

 

   Financial document

Invoices (Scanned and original copy)

Receipt of any expenses incurred for organizing a workshop (Scanned and original copy)

Budget to Actual expense report. (Electronic version)

    Remarks: The financial document should be submitted in both electronic version and original by post.

 

10. Qualification of the facilitator(s) for conducting workshop.

The Researcher(s) should fulfill the following criteria

Have demonstrated at least 3 years’ experience of working and/or conducting workshop in the area of innovation development, social innovation or related areas.

Have excellent English communication and writing skills, including the ability to explain technical information in a concise manner.

Have an attention to detail and respect for timelines.

 

 11. Remuneration

         Remuneration will be paid in 2 installments:

The 1st payment upon signature of the contract and submit invoice: 60% of total workshop cost.

The 2nd payment upon submitting the final report, financial document and invoice: 40% of total workshop cost.

Remark: The facilitator(s) will be responsible for the withholding taxes required by the Thai’s law.

 

12. Request for proposal

Workshop outline and session plan for conducting LMS CSO innovation workshop. Tools/models can be also submitted, if applicable.

Propose a 2-day workshop date (The first two weeks of September)

CV of facilitator (s) who will conduct a workshop.

The total budget for organizing a 2-day LMS CSO innovation workshop (Man-day, meeting materials etc.)
