Description
World Education has worked on the Thai-Burma border for 15 years, improving access to and quality of education for displaced persons from Burma living on both sides of the border. During that time, World Education has supported curriculum development, special education, youth leadership programs, teacher training, vocational education, and organizational capacity building with local partner organizations.
World Education is currently implementing the educational component of the Project for Local Empowerment (PLE) with partners the International Rescue Committee (IRC), the Border Consortium (TBC) and the Mae Tao Clinic (MTC). The PLE focuses on providing multi-faceted support to a wide range of local education service providers including work with partners in the temporary shelters and migrant communities in Thailand as well as partners operating in S.E. Burma/Myanmar.
Based in Mae Sot, Thailand, the PLE Education Field Officer will provide partners in S.E. Myanmar in education with organizational development by facilitating workshops, providing capacity building training, and strengthening partner educational systems. With the support and supervision of the Education Technical Specialist, the Education Field Officer will assess, address, and monitor partner support activities in close collaboration with partner organizations. This position will require frequent travel to support partner organizations throughout S.E. Myanmar.
Core Responsibilities
- Assist in the design and evaluation of appropriate support activities for partner organizations
- Contribute to the planning and conduct educational trainings and workshops
- Contribute to the development of educational assessment tools
- Contribute to the analysis and collection of data for educational research
- Undertake field visits and deliver support for educational programming to partner organizations
- Participate in internal program meetings and discussions, be responsible for the documentation of support activities and provide input for reporting as required
- Undertake other administrative, budgeting and logistical duties as required
- Build strong working relationships with local partners in the region
- Frequent travel to support partner organizations throughout S.E. Myanmar
Skills & Qualifications
- 2 years’ experience minimum working in the field of education
- Experience working with a regional education NGO or CBO is desired
- Experience designing, delivering and/or evaluating educational capacity building activities
- Excellent communication, organizational and planning skills
- Fluent Myanmar language skills both spoken and written
- Strong English spoken and written language skills (Karen and/or Mon language skills an asset)
- Good IT skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and willingness to learn web-based platforms
- Ability to work independently and on own initiative
- Ability to work flexibly in a dynamic and rapidly changing political and social context
- Ability to drive a motorbike/ car is desirable
