Summary

 

Suwannimit Foundation is a Thailand registered foundation working towards the operational capacity and programmatic impact of its civil service organization partners; and paving ways to increase access to and sustainability of social services for marginalized persons living along the Thailand-Myanmar border.

 

We are currently seeking for a person to fill-up our Advocacy Coordinator position.  The purpose of this position is to lead the design and delivery of Suwannimit Foundation’s advocacy strategy based on power analysis and core advocacy messages to Thailand decision-makers and opinion-formers.

 

This position is a personally and professionally rewarding experience with the right personality, perspective and values. Your first few months will be mostly spent with partner civil service organizations and our program team to understand the essential factors relevant to the role. 

 

Job Specific

 

To build and maintain relationships with key Thailand advocacy targets, including policy makers and their staff, civil servants and civil society actors

To lead the drafting of policy briefings, letters, submissions and other advocacy products directed at Thailand priority targets

To lead the development and review of relevant political analysis and keep others in the organization, particularly the Sub-Committee and Program Coordinators, informed of political trends and opportunities

To monitor current debates in Thailand including UN and international organizations on migrant issues, development, foreign and security policies, and identify opportunities to shape these policies

In liaison with community based partners and networks, to ensure we make the relevant connections between our Thailand and Myanmar advocacy objectives

To deliver advocacy training as needed to staff, partners and beneficiaries

To build and maintain contacts with relevant networks working on development to ensure the inclusion of Suwannimit Foundation’s key messages into joint policy documents, meetings and events as appropriate

Degree in law, communications, journalism or other similar fields

 

Work Experience

 

At least three years’ relevant experience of working with governments, policy makers and the media in order to bring about policy change

 

 

Experience in migrant issues.

Skills/Knowledge/Aptitude

 

A good understanding of how to undertake successful strategic advocacy work in a variety of relevant contexts

A good understanding of Thailand political institutions and processes and how they link to migrant issues

Ability to represent the organization in a variety of fora through high level communication skills, including experience of communicating effectively both verbally and in writing

 Proven negotiation and influencing skills

 

 

Language(s)

 

Excellent written and spoken Thai

Can comfortably understand, speak and write in English
