Position Title: Analyst
Location: Thailand (Bangkok or Chiang Mai)
Position Scope: Day rate
Timeframe: 11 Months, with the possibility to extend
Manager: Myanmar Technical Lead
Overview
This Scope of Work outlines an Analyst position at the Center for Operational Analysis and Research (COAR) who will support and lead on the production of research and analysis across projects in Myanmar. The Analyst will contribute to research activities, data collection, and analysis under the guidance of senior team members. The role involves supporting thematic research, area based analysis, stakeholder analysis, third-party monitoring, and other analytical outputs. The Analyst will work closely with other Analysts, Research Managers, and Project Managers to ensure the delivery of accurate, relevant, and high-quality analysis.

COAR is an independent organization that supports humanitarian, peacebuilding, and development interventions in complex, fragile, and high-risk environments.
Objectives
- Support the production of high-quality research (including short-form reporting and thematic research) on political, economic, social, conflict, and humanitarian dynamics in Myanmar;
- Assist in identifying and analyzing key stakeholders, systems, and trends relevant to project objectives;
- Contribute to meeting client research needs by producing accurate and timely analytical outputs;
Deliverables
- Contribute to the production of research products, including conflict analysis, area profiles, periodic reports, and thematic studies;
- Conduct desk research and support data collection efforts, including compiling and organizing qualitative and quantitative information;
- Assist in identifying relevant political, economic, social, and humanitarian dynamics and stakeholders;
- Support drafting and editing of analytical reports to ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency;
- Follow internal processes to support Information Management, Data Visualization, Mapping, and Graphic Design requests;
- Assist in responding to internal and client information requests, as needed.
Activities
- Support Lead Analyst, Sectoral Experts, and senior team members in implementing research activities and methodologies;
- Conduct literature reviews, background research, and data analysis;
- Assist in maintaining data quality, organization, and documentation;
- Apply “Do No Harm” principles in all research activities, including respecting confidentiality and informed consent;
- Support data protection practices, including proper handling of sensitive information;
- Participate in team meetings, briefings, and internal knowledge-sharing activities;
- Contribute to the development of research tools (e.g., surveys) under supervision;
- Assist in ensuring outputs meet COAR’s quality standards and deadlines.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Two (2) to three (3) years of relevant professional experience in research, analysis, humanitarian programming, or related fields;
- Academic or practical exposure to fragile, conflict-affected, or humanitarian contexts;
- Strong research and analytical skills, including desk-based research;
- Fluent in English; proficiency in Burmese or other Myanmar language preferred;
- Experience in Myanmar and/or knowledge of the Myanmar context;
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in International Relations, Political Science, Development Studies, Economics, Conflict Studies, or a related discipline;
- Strong writing and communication skills;
- Attention to detail and ability to work with structured guidance;
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Desirable
- Familiarity with humanitarian or development actors and frameworks;
- Experience with data visualization or research tools;
