This position description is the basis of the postholder’s employment contract with Mekong Institute (MI). It sets out the employee’s roles and responsibilities and what he or she is expected to deliver to contribute to MI’s work. Heads will use the position description to guide the employee in his or her work and as the basis for the annual performance evaluation process.
Mekong Institute
Mekong Institute (MI) is an intergovernmental organization owned and represented by the six Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) member countries Cambodia, China, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, and Viet Nam. MI contributes to regional cooperation and integration through capacity development, dialogue, and advocacy for sustainable socioeconomic development and poverty alleviation in the GMS.
Guided by its Strategic Plan 2026–2030, MI has shifted from project-based interventions toward an integrated, programmatic, and partnership-driven approach. Through a nexus approach, MI delivers practical, multi-sector solutions across the food, water, energy, climate, and digital domains to build institutional and human capacities and address shared cross-border challenges in the GMS.
Role of the Division
The Communications, Knowledge Management, and Partnership (CKP) Division, under the Office of Executive Director Department, aligns MI’s messaging, creative content, products, campaigns, and partnership engagement with the Institute’s mission. In support of the Strategic Plan 2026– 2030, CKP promotes MI’s research and knowledge, reinforces its visibility and reputation as a credible development partner, and expands partnerships and networks to foster resource mobilization, marketing of MI’s services, and outreach to staff, partners, beneficiaries, alumni, and other stakeholders.
Position Description
This is an entry-level support position. Reporting to the Head of the Communications, Knowledge Management, and Partnership (CKP) Division, the Communications, Knowledge Management, and Partnership Assistant is responsible for providing support related to the implementation of communication, knowledge management, and partnership strategies; event organization; management of social media presence and website; press and media relations; knowledge sharing; administrative support; and organizational reporting as necessary. S/he is also responsible for maintaining MI’s photo gallery and alumni database and for creating e-learning pages at the request of the program departments.
