Mekong Institute

Mekong Institute (MI) is an intergovernmental organization that promotes regional cooperation and integration through capacity development, dialogue, and advocacy to accelerate sustainable socioeconomic development and poverty alleviation in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS). MI is mandated and represented by Cambodia, China, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, and Viet Nam. 

MI’s work aligns with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, ASEAN Communitybuilding efforts, the GMS Cooperation Program Strategic Framework 2030, and other relevant regional and subregional cooperation frameworks. 

MI implements projects across Agricultural Development and Commercialization, Trade and Investment Facilitation, and Sustainable Energy and Environment, while mainstreaming social inclusion, digital innovation, labor mobility, and sustainability to achieve long-term regional impact. 

 

Project Overview

The Mekong CONNECT project, funded by the Mekong–Republic of Korea (ROK) Cooperation Fund, aims to enhance agricultural supply chain sustainability, resilience, and efficiency in the Mekong region. The project promotes the integration of smart agricultural technologies, strengthens public–private partnerships (PPPs), and builds the capacity of key stakeholders.

Key interventions include pilot implementations, capacity-building and coaching programs, and regional dialogue and knowledge-exchange platforms to support agricultural modernization and inclusive economic development in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, and Viet Nam.

As the project enters its second and third years of implementation, MI is seeking a Project Coordinator to support effective project delivery of activities and achievement of results. 

 

Position Overview

The Project Coordinator will support the implementation of the Mekong CONNECT project during Years 2–3. The incumbent will work under the overall supervision of the Director of the Agricultural Development and Commercialization (ADC) Department, and report directly to Project Manager.

The Project Coordinator will provide operation, coordination, and technical support across activity implementation, stakeholder engagement, monitoring and reporting, communication, and knowledge management to ensure timely, high-quality, and compliant project delivery.

 

Key Responsibilities

1.  Project Coordination and Implementation

  • Coordinate day-to-day operational activities in line with approved work plans, budgets, and timelines
  • Support organization of workshops, training programs, structured learning visits, pilot activities, and regional meetings
  • Coordinate logistics and communications with national focal points, partners, and resource persons

 

2.  Capacity Building and Technical Support

  • Support the development and organization of training curricula, session plans, and learning materials in collaboration with technical experts
  • Assist in facilitating learning activities and documenting outcomes, lessons learned, and good practices 

 

3.  Stakeholder Engagement

  • Support coordination and engagement with government agencies, academic institutions, private sector actors, farmers’ organizations, and international partners 
  • Maintain regular and professional communication with project stakeholders and implementing partners 
  • Assist in organizing coordination meetings with project partners, and official partners, including preparing agendas, background materials, and documenting action items for follow-up 

 

4.  Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting

  • Support the Project Manager in tracking activity implementation to ensure timely delivery of outputs in line with MI and donor standards
  • Collect and compile project data for progress reports
  • Contribute to the preparation of quarterly, mid-term, and annual reports.
  • Ensure systematic documentation of lessons learned, success stories, evaluation tools, and activity assessments in coordination with the M&E function 

 

5.  Financial and Operational Support

  • Monitor project expenditures to ensure alignment with the approved budget and MI financial procedures
  • Support procurement processes and documentation in compliance with MI policies
  • Assist in budget tracking and preparation of financial information in coordination with the finance focal point 

 

6.  Administrative Support

  • Provide administrative support to the Project Manager, including maintaining project records, preparing meeting minutes, and handling project correspondence.
  • Maintain organized project records and documentation 

 

7.  Knowledge Management and Communication

  • Draft case studies, impact stories, briefs, and other knowledge products related to project results
  • Contribute to internal and external dissemination of project results
  • Provide content for MI communication channels, including reports, publications, and digital platforms 

 

8.  Other Duties

  • Provide mutual support for other program teams as circumstances require
  • Perform additional tasks related to agricultural development and commercialization department as assigned by the supervisor

  • Timely inputs to progress, mid-term, and annual project reports
  • Training documentation, evaluation summaries, and learning materials
  • Case studies, impact stories, and communication materials
  • Organized and compliant project documentation 

 

Required qualifications, skills and experience

  • Master’s degree in agriculture, agribusiness, agricultural economics, rural development, development studies, development communication, or a related field
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in project implementation or coordination, preferably in donor-funded or regional projects
  • Experience supporting capacity-building activities, workshops, or training programs, and training facilitation
  • Basic knowledge of technical project management, budgeting, and donor compliance requirements
  • Strong technical writing, documentation, and reporting skills
  • Excellent command of English (written and spoken)
  • Strong interpersonal, coordination, and organizational skills in multicultural environments
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Knowledge of agricultural development and commercialization in the GMS or ASEAN context is an advantage
  • Willingness and ability to travel within GMS countries

 

Salary and Benefits

Salary

The salary shall be commensurate with qualifications and experience, and in accordance with the approved budget allocation for this position, up to a maximum of USD 2,000 per month. The final salary shall be specified in the employment contract. As MI is an intergovernmental organization, income tax exemption applies only to non-Thai staff, in accordance with applicable regulations.

Annual Leave

20 working days per year (accrued at 1.66 days per month). Maximum carry-forward: 20 days.

 Medical Insurance

Group health and accident insurance coverage for the staff member. Premium costs charged to the project budget. 

 Social Security Fund

Enrollment and contributions as required by Thai labor law (for Thai nationals). 

 Daily Subsistence Allowance (DSA)

Provided for official travel as per MI standard DSA rates. Transportation costs, visa fees, and related expenses covered by the project budget. 

 Cost of Re-location  

Assignment allowance of USD 800 for non-Thai staff upon arrival. A round-trip air ticket from the staff member’s home country to Mekong Institute will be provided. Two weeks of accommodation will also be provided upon arrival.
