Organisational context 

The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is a global apostolate of the Society of Jesus, acting as an international non-governmental organisation with a mission to accompany, serve, and advocate for the rights of refugees and forcibly displaced people. JRS was founded in November 1980 and now has a presence in 58 countries. JRS undertakes services at national and regional levels with the support and guidance of an International Office (IO) in Rome.  The style of JRS service is human and spiritual, working in situations of greatest need, seeking the long-term well-being of refugees and displaced people while not neglecting their immediate or urgent needs. The main services provided are in the field of education, reconciliation, livelihoods, and psychosocial support.  

Operational Context/Dimension of the role

This position is responsible for resource mobilisation and donor relations at a regional level and will at the same time be integrated in a global resource mobilisation team. With a regional office in Bangkok, JRS Asia Pacific supports refugees and other forcibly displaced people in Australia, Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia. 

In a shifting funding landscape, the role will seek to expand partnerships and engage with new philanthropic opportunities in the Asia Pacific. Tasks will include the development of a resource mobilisation strategy in support of local and global funding priorities and its implementation through competitive funding proposals, donor acquisition and stewardship, and the establishment of strong relationships with new internal and external stakeholders.

Main responsibilities of the position

The Philanthropy Coordinator (PC) will:

• Develop and implement a multi-year resource mobilisation strategy, in coordination with the JRS Asia Pacific Regional Office (RO) and the JRS International Office (IO), to access regional philanthropic markets, prospecting high-value donors, drawing up budgets, setting goals and timelines, in line with the JRS global strategy;
• Monitor donor trends and relevant donation rules and regulations at a regional level;
• Research and maximise funding opportunities from a variety of sources (e.g. from high-net-worth individuals, foundations, religious congregations, private sector, institutions, etc) and expand donor portfolios at a Regional/Country level;
• Represent the JRS Regional Office and JRS Global in meetings with donors, consortia, and partners;
• Ensure strong stewardship of donors, in collaboration with JRS Global;
• Write and submit funding proposals from concept through to award; Collaborate with the JRS global teams for the successful submission of proposals and reports to relevant donors;
• Create donor mappings to identify, analyse and target potential new sources of funding in line with global fundraising objectives.
• Lead capacity-building of Country staff in proposal development and donor compliance;
• Liaise with finance teams for donor reporting and accountability;
• Gather and develop content for marketing and donor stewardship. Work with global resource mobilisation and communications teams to develop content aimed at different potential audiences;
• Work with JRS IO and RO to develop a strong regional and global brand, anchored in the organisation’s mission and identity.
• Collaborate with the JRS IO for global campaigns;

 Qualifications and competencies

• University Degree in a relevant field;
• At least 7 years of related relevant professional experience in fundraising and donor relations in the region;
• Demonstrable experience with high-net-worth donor management (including foundations and grants), and securing five- and six-figure gifts;
• Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office. Any experience with CRMs - development software (Salesforce, Active Campaign, Asana) is a plus;
• Strong editing and verbal communications skills;
• Strong organisational skills and ability to handle multiple responsibilities;
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills, and the ability to work in a multi-cultural, international, and intense work environment;
• Fluent in spoken and written English; Additional regional languages desirable. 
• Direct experience and knowledge of faith-based and/or humanitarian organisations in the region is a plus.
• Direct knowledge of the business sector in the region is a plus.

Travel

• The position will require roughly 20% travel between JRS locations in the region.
