Job Title: Policy and Advocacy Intern
Department: Campaign Reports to: Policy and Advocacy Officer
Location: Bangkok, Thailand Contract Length: 3-4 months
Role Overview:
The Policy & Advocacy Intern will provide research, logistical, and documentation support to Amnesty International Thailand’s Policy & Advocacy Team. This position offers a valuable opportunity to engage with Policy & Advocacy works including the rights to freedom of expression, freedom of peaceful assembly, children’s rights, and other areas of work that Amnesty International Thailand advocates for.
The role focuses on assisting with advocacy efforts, particularly in policy documentation and research, stakeholder coordination, and advocacy implementation. The intern will support the team by conducting desk research, coordinating meetings and events, and contributing to the development of advocacy materials and policy briefs.
By the end of the internship, the intern will design and implement their own human rights advocacy project, with guidance and support from the Policy & Advocacy Team.
Key Accountabilities/ Responsibilities:
1. Research and Documentation
Conduct desk research and monitor policy development on relevant human rights issues, including freedom of expression, freedom of peaceful assembly, children’s rights, and other areas under Amnesty International Thailand’s work.
Assist in preparing policy briefs, advocacy materials, and background papers.
Contribute to documentation support for a range of activities, including public consultations and court hearings.
2. Advocacy Support
Assist in preparing advocacy materials such as reports, position papers, and presentations for use in meetings with government officials, international organisations, and civil society partners.
Coordinate logistics for meetings, events, and workshops related to ongoing advocacy initiatives.
Support the preparation of meeting notes, documentation, and follow-up communications in Thai and English
3. Public Events
Participate in a range of public events such as conferences, press briefings, and advocacy activities to observe and document human rights situations, engage with stakeholders, and contribute to Amnesty International Thailand’s advocacy efforts.
4. Stakeholder Coordination
Assist in collaboration with civil society organisations to coordinate joint initiatives promoting human rights.
Assist the team in building and maintaining relationships with key civil society partners.
5. Logistics and Administrative Support
Provide general administrative and logistical support to the Policy & Advocacy Team, including coordination of meetings, events, and documentation.
Take detailed meeting notes, prepare summaries, and assist with follow-up actions and internal coordination as needed.
Help maintain internal databases, contact lists, and activity tracking tools.
6. Project Development
Design and implement an individual project related to human rights advocacy.
Receive ongoing guidance from the Policy & Advocacy Team throughout the project cycle.
Organisational support for final projects may be available (5,000–10,000 THB) in line with AITH’s intern policy.
Learning Outcomes:
Practical experience in human rights research and documentation, advocacy, and policy development.
A strong understanding of key human rights issues in Thailand and globally, especially freedom of expression, freedom of assembly, children’s rights, and other areas under Amnesty International Thailand’s work.
Direct exposure to real-world advocacy through court hearings, public events, and stakeholder meetings.
Experience in project design, implementation, and management.
Structured feedback and an end-of-internship evaluation to support professional growth.

Person Specification:
Strong interest in human rights policy and advocacy, particularly in freedom of expression, assembly, children’s rights, and other global human rights issues.
Currently studying for or recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program.
Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including civil society, government agencies, and international organizations.
Fluency in Thai; English proficiency is highly desirable.

Compensation:
Stipend: 6,000 THB per month.
Phone/Internet: Reimbursement up to 500 THB per month (with receipts).
Insurance: Accident insurance provided for work-related travel and activities.
Travel & Meals: Reimbursement of actual costs (with receipts) for work-related events outside the office. Daily commuting costs are not covered.
Housing Allowance: 3,000 THB per month for interns not based in Bangkok (valid rental agreement required).
Project Support: 5,000–10,000 THB available for the final project, subject to approval.
