Major Function

The senior researcher provides support to the Wildlife Conservation Program Director by implementing and coordinating the tasks of four major themes: enhancement of protected area management, patrolling, and enforcement; increasing participation of local residents and other stakeholders in the conservation of the park’s natural resources, implementing best practice monitoring strategies for the area, and habitat improvement and prey augmentation to reboot the ungulates population.

The primary responsibility includes tiger and wildlife monitoring, research field work, tiger and prey database in four protected areas in Upper Western Forest Complex, habitat improvement, prey augmentation, technical training and workshop, and development of presentation/ technical report/proposal on results of project as well as other relevant in and around the target sites.

Major Responsibilities

Action Plan Development and Implementation

  • Support the tiger and wildlife research and monitoring
  • Research field work including tiger and prey survey
  • Take care the tiger and prey database and exchange results with partner such as Khao Nang Ram Wildlife Research Station and Wildlife Conservation Society
  • Support on analyse research results and report writing
  • Habitat improvement
  • Prey augmentation
  • Coordinate logistics with protected area staffs
  • Maintain research equipment
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the project’s research and survey, technical training and workshop
  • Assist in the design and implementation of project surveys and studies when required

Work plan Development and Implementation

  • Confer with the Wildlife Conservation Program Director and team members to develop monthly, six month, and annual work plans based on the project budget and project year work plan
  • Monitor progress against activity work plan to ensure that the project attains its objectives as cost-effectively and efficiently as possible

Overall Management

  • Provide logistical and technical support as required for successful achievement of project objectives and activities
  • Provide general guidance to project activities in consultation with project staff, partners, and if necessary with supervisor
  • Coordinate closely with all key stakeholders to ensure the smooth implementation of project activities and create synergy and cooperation between projects
  • Assist with donors and VIP visit to project sites and coordinate and organize in-country and international study tours and field visits
  • Frequently travel to existing project areas and related sites
  • Perform administrative tasks such as support logistics (e.g. procurement of field equipment, visits, travels, etc.) for the project, provide translation and interpretation when required, set-up project filling system to be applied and followed by all project staff
  • Develop and maintain database of all technical reports, presentation, maps, data and information, pictures produced by the project as well as list of organisations and companies working in related fields, related products, etc.
  • Support on awareness activities work in the project areas when required
  • Meet regularly with Government counterparts, especially DNP and partners
  • Support any other additional work required by the Wildlife Conservation Program Director

Communications

  • Liaise and introduce activities to the donor and other interested groups, both public and private sector, inside and outside WWF
  • Raise awareness among public sector institutions and regulatory bodies concerning the project and its objectives
  • Provide inputs to communications products/campaigns to ensure accurate information will be published to promote the image of the organisation and project activities

People Management

  • Work with the Wildlife Conservation Program Director and counterpart on the capacity building of key counterparts

Issue Resolutions

  • Provide advisory and technical guidance to managers, staff, counterparts, and consultants on all aspects related to the project when required
  • Write bi-monthly project brief and review and provide technical comments to technical studies
  • Compile all project related documentation and communication material and provide brief

Monitoring and Evaluation, Reporting

  • Assist in the preparation of six-monthly progress reports to monitor all technical, financial and administrative aspects on the utilisation and impact of all resources made available to the project
  • Disseminate the technical report among the public sector institutions and regulatory bodies
