Position Title               :  Project Assistant

Duty Station                :  Bangkok, Thailand

Classification              :  General Service (G-4, THB 61,967.50 per month)

Type of Appointment  :  Special Short Term Contract

Initial 6 months with possibility of extension

Estimated Start Date  :  As soon as possible

Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

 

1.ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND SCOPE:

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Project Assistant in Emergency and Post-Crisis (EPC) Unit, the successful candidate will contribute to the implementation of material and service support to minority groups from Myanmar and other vulnerable migrants in Immigration Detention Centres, Shelters for Children and Families, Welfare Protection Centres for Victims of Trafficking and other locations in Thailand.

 

2.RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

The successful candidate will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist in assessing the material and service support needs in various project locations in terms of health assistance, supplemental nutrition, non-food items (NFIs) and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) support.
  • Assist EPC staff in the implementation of projects, which can include, but is not limited to, drafting and translation of official/unofficial written documents, assistance in organizing workshops, meeting and conferences, conducting monitoring and evaluation, preparing presentations, drafting meeting minutes, etc.
  • Assist in routine liaison with relevant stakeholders, including the Royal Thai Government counterparts, UN agencies, NGOs, and CBOs, to coordinate on-going interventions between the actors.
  • Assist EPC to support the delivery of material and service support to minority groups from Myanmar and other vulnerable migrants, which includes preparing purchase requisition forms, payment requests, IMPREST clearance, and cash advance requests, in coordination with Procurement and Finance Units.
  • Assist in monitoring the procurement, delivery and/or installation of the materials and services, with a particular emphasis on the quality and effectiveness of the materials and services being provided to meet and exceed donor standards.
  • Prepare and disseminate regular updates on news articles, policies, trends, and regulations relating to minority groups from Myanmar and other vulnerable migrants.
  • Assist with the preparation of updates on programmes and official letters to the relevant government counterparts, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security.
  • In coordination with the project team, ensure that the donor’s visibility requirements are met and executed including any communications activities that may be requested.
  • Regularly update Migrant Information Application (MIA) database.
  • Conduct field visits to the various locations when deemed necessary.
  • Perform such other duties as may be required.

 

3.QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

EDUCATION

  • Secondary School Diploma with at least four years of relevant working experience.
  • University degree in Business Administration and/or Management, International Relations, Political Science, Social Science, or relevant field from accredited academic institution with at least 2 years of relevant working experience.

 

Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

 

EXPERIENCE

  • At least two years of work experience in migration issues for nongovernmental organizations, international governmental organizations or government institutions

 

SKILLS

  • Sound knowledge of programme implementation and evaluation and familiarity with financial and business administration
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment and respect diversity
  • Teamwork oriented but with a capacity to work independently
  • Good writing and communication skills
  • Computer literate with excellent knowledge of excel

 

4.LANGUAGES

  • Fluency in Thai and English (oral and written) is required.
