Position: Community Engagement Assistant

(Conservation & Policy Department, Fixed term, Full time)

Salary: Range from 210,000 THB to 235,200THB per year

Location: Kanchanaburi, Thailand

Overview of Role:

The purpose of this role is to manage all aspects of the three-year project with agreed deliverables. 

The main function of the Community Engagement Assistant is to provide assistance to the Project Officer in the Kanchanaburi with local communities for the purpose of natural resource management, environmental education, Human Wildlife coexistence and livelihood development. To effectively perform his/her tasks, the community engagement assistant is required to work with the communities working closely with local authorities, and other relevant stakeholders.  

 

Projects: Darwin Main (support) + Darwin C&C (support) 

 

Other main duties of the will include:

Stakeholder engagement 

  • Assist the Community Engagement Officer and Project Manager in planning, organizing and implementing capacity building trainings at the community level.
  • Support community engagement activities, including capacity and dissemination workshops, focus groups, surveys, and interviews. Translate, if required.
  • Support stakeholder engagement activities including focus groups and interviews with plantation companies, insurance agencies, and farming communities to assess feasibility and support to human-elephant conflict compensation & insurance scheme.  

 

Data management & Project Administrative support

  • Collect information, compile data, produce reports, and organize files as requested 
  • Support the development and maintenance of knowledge management systems for sharing information
  • Assist in keeping records of all community-based activities
  • Complete weekly reports / monthly reports on project activities, including good quality activity photos, documentation of feedback from community engagement sessions, and the proactive sharing of lessons learned.

 

The duties and responsibilities described are not a comprehensive list and additional tasks may be assigned from time to time that are in line with the level of the role.

 

The ideal candidate will:

  • At least a bachelor’s degree in social development or social sciences, environment/wildlife or natural resource management, development studies or related fields.
  • At least 1 years of professional experience in community engagement, project implementation, delivery of project activities, and reporting.
  • Knowledge of community development and community organizing principles  
  • Knowledge of conservation and natural resource management issues in Thailand would be desirable.  
  • Proven understanding of issues in related fields and working knowledge of policy/institutional context in community-based resource management in Thailand
  • Knowledge of the realities of government agencies, development partners and the not-for-profit sector 
  • Proven ability to work effectively in partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, and private sector stakeholders in Thailand.
  • Strong coordination and communication skills; with demonstrated public speaking experience.
  • Professional experience in building and supporting stakeholder engagement, ideally with local communities, HEC, agroforestry and corporate social responsibility, or law enforcement focus.
