Job Title: Executive Director, The Freedom Story Thailand

Employment Type: Full-Time

Reports To: CEO

Location: Thailand - Chiang Rai

 

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

The Freedom Story prevents child trafficking in Northern Thailand by providing educational scholarships and culturally relevant programs for vulnerable children, youth, and their communities. Through education, psychosocial support, human rights strengthening, and income generation programming, The Freedom Story ensures children at risk of exploitation have opportunity and choice. The Freedom Story has been operating in Thailand since 2008.

 

BASIC FUNCTION:

The Executive Director is the key management leader of The Freedom Story’s offices in Chiang Rai and Nan. Working closely with the CEO to ensure the continued excellence of programming and operations in Thailand, the Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the management of staff, programs, and strategic plans of the organization. Other key duties include budget management, monitoring and evaluation, and representing the organization in public forums. 

 

OPERATIONAL TASKS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) Organization Mission and Strategy: Works with the CEO, US and Thai Boards, and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning, and community outreach.

  • Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve organizational goals and objectives. 
  • Ensure ongoing local programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals.
  • Ensure effective systems to track scaling progress, regularly evaluate program components, and make programmatic improvements where needed.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government, non-governmental organizations, funders, community groups, and other stakeholders.
  • Represent the organization in public forums, conferences, and media. 
  • Work with in-country leadership to ensure programs and operational structures are adapted to meet ongoing and anticipated needs, both short and long-term.
  • Collaborate with other organizations to advocate for policies and practices that prevent human trafficking.

 

2) Leadership and Management: Oversees and implements appropriate resources to ensure that the operations of the organization are appropriate. Works with the Thailand Board in order to fulfill the organization’s mission.

  • Communicates effectively with the CEO, Board, and U.S. office, and provides in a timely and accurate manner all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions. 
  • Responsible effective administration of The Freedom Story Thailand’s operations. 
  • Responsible for the hiring and retention of competent, qualified staff. Holds management staff responsible for staff development and planning. Promote and maintain a positive work environment that values a diversity of voices and a learning atmosphere.
  • Responsible for signing all notes, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of the organization, and for ensuring implementation of those agreements.

 

3) Financial Performance and Viability: Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization. 

  • Responsible for the fiscal integrity of TFS Thailand, to include submission to the Board of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization. 
  • Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position. 
  • Work to expand local revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations and growth while simultaneously diversifying funding sources.

 

4) Other

  • Review and approve contracts for services.
  • Oversee marketing and other communications efforts in Thai.
  • Appoint and manage Thai Foundation Board members in order to facilitate accountability, oversight of activities and performance, and assist, where possible, with fundraising.
  • Other duties as assigned by the CEO, Thai Board members, and US office.

 

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field is required, a Master’s degree in development, business, leadership, public management, human resources or communications is preferred;
  • Ten or more years senior nonprofit management experience;
  • Fluency in both English and Thai;
  • Knowledge of human trafficking issues and prevention strategies is required, knowledge of issues in Thailand and/or experience working in Northern Thailand preferred;
  • Experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation;
  • Demonstrated skill in budget preparation, analysis, and management; 
  • Strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, and donors.

  • Skilled at human resource management skills, including capacity building, workforce planning, cross departmental cooperation, and staff mentoring;
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey a vision of The Freedom Story Thailand’s strategic future to staff, Board, volunteers, and donors;
  • Skills to collaborate with and motivate Board members and other volunteers;
