Position "Head Social Worker"

DtonNaam serves vulnerable Thai male and trans individuals as they leave prostitution, helping them rebuild their lives holistically by providing education, healthcare, therapy, job training and more. We provide support and skills through counseling, creative art classes, therapy and education to empower them to live a healthy lifestyle and find successful options for their current situation and future. 

Main Job Details:

The Head Social Worker reports directly to DN’s Director but is responsible for leading its recovery team. This involves following the vision and policies of DN to build strong relationships, effective support group materials, and individualized treatment plans that the recovery team can implement. Keeping confidentiality and health issues a priority along with organized and legal documentation. 

Lead recovery team to function well together with weekly meetings, sessions, adjusting to crisis cases and planning which staff goes with which client/student to doctor appointments, and other important next steps. You will also work alongside the recovery team to provide holistic care for each student, including teaching classes that promote health and skills.

(Clients are those still involved in the sex industry; Students are those who have left prostitution and entered DN’s recovery program). 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage all social workers, caseworkers and volunteers on DN’s recovery team, by providing them with training, guidance, and support.

  • Build trust, make treatment plans and goals with each student, and then work with them to achieve these goals.

  • Write case notes and maintain accurate records, on each client and student, which meet specified standards and timescales.

  • Provide support and education regarding medical conditions and concerns, including doctor visits when appropriate.

  • Lead recovery meetings and keep the team updated and working together on the behalf of each student’s process. 

  • Make house visits, when appropriate, to work toward healthier family dynamics. A healthier family unit will often bring quicker overall health to the ones we are helping.

  • Translate documents from English to Thai and/or Thai to English when necessary

  • Participate in Outreach in the Red Light Districts, reaching out to those in the sex industry and discussing resources offered by DtonNaam.
     

Preferred Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree from courses related to Social Work or Counseling.

  • Shows initiative, great verbal and written communication, time management skills and interpersonal and relationship building skills.

  • Previous social worker or case management experience, specifically related to trauma, abuse, substance abuse or addiction.

  • Ability to work under challenging conditions and in difficult situations with sensitivity and respect. Maintain confidentiality 

  • Passion for serving vulnerable and disadvantaged populations. Knowledge of human trafficking preferred but not required

 

Requirements:

  • Meet with a personal supervisor/mentor/coach or counselor monthly.

  • Be an example of integrity, love and health to the students and clients

  • Have good boundaries with team, students, clients (and students’ other relationships)

  • Be a diligent self starter and a positive team player; stay teachable and inquisitive; 

  • Willing to learn languages and cultures relating to the job and adjust teaching and therapeutic methods as needed.


Other Details:
This job is located in the central part of Bangkok, Thailand. The salary will be based on the applicant's education, skills and experience. This is a challenging yet worthwhile role, requiring five days per week; full time hours.
