POSITION TITLE: Extension specialist
Location: Northeast, Thailand
PROJECT: USDA Thailand Regional Agriculture Innovation Network (RAIN)
Reports to: Technical Director
POSITION SUMMARY: The Extension specialist will be responsible for the implementation of the extension and partnership strategy for scaling of climate-smart innovations in strengthening rice and casava value chain in the Northeast provinces for the USDA Thailand Regional Agriculture Innovation Network (RAIN), Thailand (2022-2027). The position is full-time, working remotely outside of Bangkok is possible.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide technical coordination. Support the five technical coordination (source, support, scale, sell and share) to improve productivity and trade of the rice and casava value chain in project areas (Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum, and Nakorn Ratchasima). Coordinate and organize activities and visits in the area. Activities include providing technical expertise on value chain analysis, identifying gaps, identified opportunities and partners. Ensure timely, high-quality implementation and reporting, contributing to the drafting of bi-annual reports.
- Coordinate SOURCING and validation of innovations. Contribute to evidence panels and coordinate with stakeholders to confirm the market and technical validation of rice and casava innovations. Oversee the validation/testing/piloting process for the innovations in coordination with partners ensuring that accurate data and reports are produced for each innovation.
- Develop service SUPPORT bundles. Work with staff and consultant specialists to develop agricultural service support packages for climate-smart innovations that include extension, data, and access to finance and developing business proposals if needed.
- Implement SCALE plans. Lead development of adoption plans to scale successful innovations. Ensure that women, youth, and marginalized communities are integrated in all activities where feasible.
- Coordinate SELL and SHARE activities. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with rice and casava private sectors, farmer groups, relevant ministries, development projects, and regional bodies. Represent RAIN in meetings and supporting others in the team in extension expertise as needed.
- Other duties as assigned as appropriated based on experience and expertise.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience. At least 5 years of experience in rice agricultural development, research, and/or innovation; including extensive experience within Thailand agricultural sector required. Having the same experiences with casava is also an advantage. Good sense of entrepreneurship and business coordination.
- Education. Minimum of a Master’s degree in agriculture, agribusiness, international development, or equivalent experience in a related field.
- Outreach. Familiarity with managing partnerships and engaging with public, private as well as local NGO. Good communication skills with people from different backgrounds.
- Reporting. Experience in compiling information into a compelling narrative. Produce good quality reports.
- Computer and administrative. Competent computer software skills in MS Excel and Word. Independent and efficient in administrative skill
- Language. Fluency in English and Thai required.
