Position Title:   Project Officer (Technical)

Background :    The Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System for Africa and Asia (RIMES) is an international and intergovernmental institution, owned and managed by its Member States, for the generation and application of early warning information. RIMES evolved from the efforts of countries in Africa and Asia, in the aftermath of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, to establish a regional early warning system within a multi-hazard framework for the generation and communication of early warning information, and capacity building for preparedness and response to trans-boundary hazards. RIMES was established on 30 April 2009, and was registered with the United Nations on 1 July 2009. RIMES operates from its regional early warning center located at the campus of the Asian Institute of Technology in Pathumthani, Thailand.

 

Position Description:

The Project Officer, reporting to the Project Director, is responsible for overall coordination of the project and track and monitor the progress of project components and activities.

 

Duty station :  RIMES Regional Facility, AIT Campus, 58 Moo 9 Paholyothin Rd., Klong 1, Klong  Luang, Pathumthani 12120 Thailand.

 

Type of Contract : Full-Time Contract

 

Minimum Qualifications:

A Master’s Degree in Remote Sensing and GIS, Water Engineering and Management, Disaster Management or a related field.

 

Skills and abilities:

  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in managing technical projects in the field of Disaster Management, Hydrology, or related field.
  • Ability to work in a multi-country and multi-cultural environment involving extensive interaction/coordination with senior government officials.
  • Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving ability
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English and Thai language.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate ideas, write precisely and clearly
  • Proficient in preparing presentation materials, communication materials, and drafting reports
  • Knowledge on statistical tools, GIS, graphical software is desirable
  • Knowledge on weather and climate data, hydrological models is an advantage
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent management skills
  • Strong written & verbal command of Thai and English.

 

Personal Qualities: Excellent interpersonal skills; team-oriented work style; commitment to quality, responsibility, high work standards, and initiative; remains calm, in control, and has good humor even under pressure

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Coordinate with DDPM officials to specify the requirements, identify the activities and develop the work plan.
  • Work closely with the RIMES team members to coordinate all activities for smooth and timely implementation of the project.
  • Maintain a project management calendar and monitor the progress of project implementation work plan, and deliverable schedules
  • Organize, attend, and participate in project meetings.
  • Other relevant work for the project as assigned by the Project lead or the Technical Leads.

 

 

Contract Duration:  The contract will initially be for one year and will be extended upon satisfactory completion of a six-month probationary term and each annual performance review.
