Background of the project 

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. Founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, the IRC is at work in over 40 countries and 26 U.S. cities helping people to survive, reclaim control of their future and strength-en their communities. The IRC has been operating in Thailand since 1975 and currently provide as-sistance to displaced persons in Tak, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi and Mae Hong Son provinces.

 

IRC will provide a broad range of protection services to newly arrived refugees identified within the Royal Thai Government’s “safety zones”, “holding areas” and informal settings. Protection moni-toring by the IRC and a network of local implementing partners and community-based organiza-tions (CBOs) will be the primary means to identify key protection risks for populations.

 

Scope of work

Protection and Empowerment team (consist of LAC program, WPE program and LLH program) will develop the protection and empowerment document and material during the contract pe-riod in order to support the refugees to have knowledge and awareness for safety living in camp and prepare for their future.

 

On this regard, the document and/or material will be developed in English language. To make these materials documents to be able to share into the community, IRC-Protection and em-powerment team would like to translate these documents into local languages (Karen).

 

The consultant will support to translates document and/or material that will be used for activity of 3 programs under Protection and Empowerment team. To complete the high quality of translation, the translator needs to consult and check for accuracy with Protection and Em-powerment program. The translator must submit the finish translation documents/material upon the agreement.

 

Deliverables:

•  Complete translation of assign document in English to Karen.

•  Check the complete assignment with the assign program under Protection and Empower-ment Team for the quality translation

 

Payment Rate and Schedule:

Regarding the amount of translation, approximately 10 pages per month or 60 pages in total, 350 words per page. IRC may withhold for taxes 3% as required by law and shall provide withholding certificates to the translator, accordingly.

 

Requirements:

Education:                                          High School or Bachelor’s degree

Work Experience:                               at least 1 years of translation experience

Demonstrated skills:                          Competency, Confidentiality, Able to work independently

Languages and computer skills:       Influent in English and Karen.

Strong Computer skills including Word, Excel, Power Point
