Job Title:    Project Director, Urban Education Project (Re-advertise)             
Reports to:    Country Director
Location:    Bangkok, Thailand

 

The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is an international non-governmental organisation with a mission to accompany, serve, and advocate for the rights of refugees and forcibly displaced people.  The organisation was founded in November 1980 and is present in over 50 countries. JRS undertakes services at national and regional levels with the support of an international office in Rome. The style of JRS service is direct and personal, working in situations of greatest need, seeking the long-term wellbeing of refugees and displaced persons, while not neglecting their immediate and urgent needs. JRS offers opportunities to a wide variety of staff, local and international, while maintaining a realistic and localised scheme of salary/stipend, insurance, etc.  
In Thailand, JRS manages four programs spread throughout urban and rural areas serving refugees and asylum seekers. JRS Thailand country office is in Bangkok, with Project offices in Mae Hong Son, Mae Sariang and Bangkok. PURPOSE:  
The JRS Thailand Urban Education Project Director (PD) is responsible for the direction and implementation of a project that improves skills and opportunities of urban asylum seekers and refugee children and youth (15-35 years old). The project has three main components: a) English and Thai language course, b) vocational and digital skills training, and c) internship and scholarship program. The responsibilities of the PD include leading the team in project implementation, contributing to the development of proposals and reports, and representing JRS in urban refugee education advocacy and networks.   

 

RELATIONS: 
UEP Project Director works directly with the Urban Education Project and reports to Country Director.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • To safeguard and promote the mission, vision, values and policy standards of JRS at the project level. 
  • To ensure the successful achievement of project objectives and implementation of activities integrating the JRS mission, values and standards.
  • To lead the project team and to coordinate with the urban program manager and finance officer in the preparation and development of annual/multi-annual narrative and financial proposals and reports, monitoring and evaluation. 
  • To help establish a robust data and information management system for the program.
  • To plan and coordinate teacher training and capacity building activities with the JRS education specialist.
  • To assist in the development of stories and communication materials for JRS and donor partners.
  • To communicate project updates, learnings and challenges with the country support team during regular staff and project directors’ meetings and regular project reporting.
  • To contribute to policy analysis and research on urban refugee education.
  • To strengthen relationships and advocacy with key partners and stakeholders in urban refugee education such as refugee learning centers, public and private schools, NGOs, UNHCR-BRC, Thai communities and government agencies and support the education working group among urban refugee stakeholders.
  • To represent JRS in education stakeholders meeting with NGO, UN and Thai government when requested.
  • To supervise the project staff in fulfilling their roles and tasks and conduct annual performance appraisals to ensure their capacity development. The project team includes an education officer, a project assistant, and six language and skills training teachers.
