Introduction

The Shoklo Malaria Research Unit (SMRU) is a field station of the faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand, and is part of the Mahidol-Oxford Research Unit (MORU) supported by the Wellcome Trust, UK. The main objective of SMRU is to provide quality health care to the marginalised populations living on both sides of the Thai-Myanmar border in the Mae Sot area, Tak province. This is achieved by the dual activities of research and humanitarian services, with an emphasis on maternal-child health and infectious diseases.

 

SMRU is based in Mae Sot where the main laboratories are based and received samples from sites along the Thai-Myanmar border.

 

Job title:             Monitoring and Evaluation Consultant

Location:            Mae Sot, Tak Province, Thailand

Probation:         SMRU can terminate employment at 3 months if performance inadequate

Report to:          Project Lead

 

 The post holder will be responsible for giving training in person to project management team, especially to M&E related staff of the project, according to the consultancy contract.

 

Besides, this position holder will give a review on current logframe and provide feedback and suggestion for any necessary improvement. Moreover, this position holder will support planning of monitoring task and reporting during the review period of the consultancy contract. And this position holder may suggest project management and M&E staff for any extra template or format design

  • Provide an introductory workshop on M&E to SMRU MCH project management and M&E team (and selected staff of SMRU L’Initiative other projects): definition, purpose, benefits and methods.
  • Ensure SMRU MCH project management and M&E team understand the expectations of L’initiative in relation to M&E and how they should be presented.
  • Assist the SMRU MCH project management and M&E team in developing M&E of the activities in line with the logframe.
  • Review the data of indicators and M&E tools of the activities in line with the logframe.

  • SMRU MCH project management and M&E team understand the expectations of L’initiative in relation to M&E and how they should be presented.
  • The logframe, Budget and Activity schedule are reviewed together with the team and well understood
  • Recommendations are formulated to support the revision of M&E tools
  • A basic M&E manual will be developed.

 

 

Data analysis

  • Evaluate with SMRU MCH project management and M&E team the gaps and challenges in achieving and reporting on the set indictors in the logframe.
  • If needed revise/develop data collection tools and templates for M&E and how these will be reported to achieve the expectations of L’initiative

  • BA or Master degree in any disciplines: Public Health, Social Science, Project Management, Social Development
  • At least ten years of professional experience conducting evaluations and assessments of public response, preferably with some relationship to MCH.
  • At least 5 years’ experience leading implementation and overall management of a public health project preferable with some relationship to MCH.
  • Deep understanding of monitoring and evaluation tools, preferably using L’initiative framework
  • Demonstrated capacity to transfer skills and knowledge and/or to reinforce organizational systems

Knowledge of project cycle management
