I. Background
The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) aims to conserve nature and ecological processes by preserving biodiversity, ensuring sustainable use of natural resources and promoting the reduction of pollution and wasteful use of resources and energy. WWF works in more than 100 countries around the world. WWF has been working in Thailand since 1983 and WWF-Thailand was founded in 1995.
WWF-Thailand implements a strategy that harnesses the strengths of the WWF network to focus on four major areas, which are Freshwater, Wildlife, Oceans, and Forests, and three key drivers of environmental changes – Markets, Finance and Governance. In support of this strategy WWF-Thailand works with governments, businesses, civil society and individuals to achieve our global goals.
‘No More Plastic in Nature’ Initiative of WWF was launched in 2018 with the aim of stopping plastic leakage from land-based sources into nature by 2030. The regional project is being implemented in 5 Southeast Asian countries namely Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Hong Kong and Thailand. It is currently being implemented in 4 provinces in Southern Thailand. As one of its key pillars, the key objective of Plastic Smart Cities (PSC) is to reduce plastic leakage at the city-level by 30%.
II. Major Duties and Responsibilities
• Liaise with senior government officials to introduce and integrate WWF’s Plastic goals and materials into national and local education systems in Thailand
• Help schools assess their current waste management practices and identify opportunities to promote 3R practices (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) in their organisations and localities
• Make field visits to engage with local partners and stakeholders, with the help of PSC Field Coordinators, to promote plastic campaigns and educational programmes
• Collaborate with experts and specialists to develop and deliver high-quality and accessible course content to students, teachers, executives, and relevant policymakers
• Develops and refines frameworks, processes, tools, and criteria for results monitoring in schools
• Leverage other education-related initiatives of WWF such as the Eco-Schools Programme
• Encourage schools and stakeholders to adopt a Circular Economy approach to achieve “Zero Waste” and support climate mitigation efforts
• Support the Plastic team on procurement processes
III. Required Qualifications
• Masters level degree in relevant area of expertise with over 5+ years of experience
• Experience working in international NGOs or relevant development agencies including project design, budget planning, and vendor management
• Experience in result-oriented development and education projects with schools and youth
• Understanding of complex government structures especially of cities and public agencies
• Fluency in Thai and English
IV. Working Relationships
Internal
• PSC team - Support the Plastic team on operations and donor reporting
• Education team - Provide knowledge, tools, materials and facilitation support to implement PSC activities and policy advocacy with local schools and networks.
• Communication team – Ensure that guidelines are followed and impactful contents are developed and disseminated
• Finance team - Ensure that relevant documents are prepared in accordance to internal requirements and ensure timely payment process to vendors
External
• Governmental entities - Work with central and local government agencies such as DEQP, DMCR, PCD, OBEC, municipalities, etc.
• Local, national, and international organizations, including corporates - Forge fruitful partnership with other organizations working on similar issues.
