Vacancy Announcement

Malteser International is a German non-governmental organization providing humanitarian assistance and development aid for people in need in over 20 countries. Malteser International is currently working with temporary refugee shelters and surrounding villages in Sob-Moei district, Mae Hong Son province in Thailand. Our office located in Mae Sariang is looking for an efficient, motivated and experienced Thai national for the position as Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) Assistant / Translator

 

RCCE Assistant / Translator (2 positions)

Duty Station: Mae Sariang town, Mae Hong Son province

Work locations: Based in Mae Sariang Town, with occasional travel to other locations (including Mae La Oon & Mae Ra Ma Luang temporary shelters in Sob-Moei District)

Work Contract: Until 31st August 2022 (Extension possibility providing ability project funding)

Salary range: 18,000 (+benefits)

 

Objective(s)

The Risk Communication and Community Engagement Assistant/Translator will work closely with the RCCE coordinator to support COVID related messaging and health promotion through RCCE approaches by researching and providing updated information about COVID-19 for temporary shelter residents and RCCE pillar members.

 

 

The following is an abridged version of the full job description

 

 

Main Responsibilities/ COVID19 messaging and health promotion through RCCE approaches:

 

  1. Conduct research on topics as assigned.

  2. Translate English or Thai document into relevant languages.

  3. Interpret from Thai/English to relevant languages and vice versa during the field work.

  4. Support/Co-facilitate the RCCE trainings, and RCCE briefing to relevant target groups.

  5. Contribute to key message/IEC materials formulation based on community feedback, existing and new information issued by WHO and Thai health authorities, according to the local context.

  6. Gather information and draft Weekly Announcement for 9 temporary shelters.

  7. Draft a community feedback monthly report to inform MI’s vaccine campaign and relevant services based on community feedback.

  8. Contribute to reviewing, adjusting, and improving risk communication and key messages regularly, based on community feedback and monitoring data.

  9. Attend relevant meetings as assigned

  10. Manage information, community Feedback Database, filing of documents.

  11. Perform other relevant tasks as reasonably assigned.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Essential Qualifications/Skills:

 

Education

  1. Bachelor’s degree or equal academic qualifications in field(s) relevant to the position.

Experience

  1. Proven experience in translating and interpreting between any of the languages of Karen, Karenni, Thai, Burmese, and English.

  2. Previous experience with data collection and data entry is desirable and considered an advantage.

  3. Previous experience of working with disadvantaged communities considered an advantage.

Knowledge and skills

  1. Information and database management skills.

  2. Keen interest in following news both domestically and internationally.

  3. Fluent in Thai and any of the following languages: Sgaw Karen, Karenni and Burmese (fluency in two or more of these languages considered an advantage)

  4. Active internet user familiar with search engines and news outlets

  5. Basic knowledge and interest in doing research and enthusiasm to learn new things.

  6. Good command of MS Word and Excel applications

  7. Good communication and interpersonal skills.

  8. Good attitude, positive thinking and open minded.
