Program Officer for Southeast Asia
Location: Bangkok (Thailand) – Working from home/remotely is encouraged
Type of employment: 6-month fixed-term contract, starting on 4 April 2022

Founded in 1922 by 15 human rights groups, the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) now unites 192 national organizations from 117 countries to collaborate on strategies and activities to promote universal human rights standards. FIDH acts with its member and partner organizations to monitor, document, and alert the international community about human rights violations. FIDH is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Program Officer, covering Southeast Asia (giving priority to Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam).
The successful candidate will work under the responsibility of the Director of Operations and under the supervision of the Asia Desk Director.
Main responsibilities:
- Draft reports, press releases, open letters, briefing notes, op-eds and ensure that they are approved by board members and local members and partners.
- Assist in the organization of fact-finding and judicial observation missions and advocacy activities.
- Represent FIDH in meetings with NGOs, government representatives, media, donors.
- Liaise and coordinate with other regional and thematic desks at the FIDH International Secretariat, as well as the press, web, and communication department.
- Liaise and coordinate with FIDH’s delegations in Geneva and Brussels.
- Liaise with FIDH member and partner organizations for Southeast Asia.
- Contribute to the formulation of funding applications for activities related to Southeast Asia.
- Contribute to the design and implement communication activities, in consultation with the press, web and communication departments;
- Contribute to monitor, assess and report on activities carried out.
- Carry out administrative tasks as needed (hiring and training of interns, hiring and management of consultants, maintaining a database of contacts, printing & dissemination of materials).
Experience
- Minimum of two years work experience in the field of human rights (preferably for a national, regional and/or international NGO).
- In-depth understanding of the human rights, political, social, and economic context in Southeast Asia.
- Familiarity with UN human rights standards and mechanisms.
Competence and skills
- A university degree in a relevant field, such as political science, international relations, or law.
- Excellent writing skills and attention to details.
- Fluency in oral and written English.
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently, be rigorous, able to prioritize, and work under pressure and multiple deadlines.
- Advocacy skills and ability to represent FIDH and communicate its positions to different audiences, such as civil society, government, intergovernmental organizations, donors, and private actors.
Terms and conditions of employment
- Remuneration: 67,000 THB per month, plus tax and social security contributions as per Thai law.
- Hours: 40 working hours a week, Monday to Friday.
- Leave: 9 days of annual leave, plus Thai public holidays.
