Role Overview: The Care and Counseling Officer will provide HIV counseling, testing, treatment and linkage to care for transgender clients and their partners at the Tangerine Community Health Center. The Care and Counseling Officer will also play an important role in providing psychosocial support and facilitating access to safe gender-affirmative hormone treatment and other transgender-specific healthcare services. In addition, The Care and Counseling Officer will assist with transgender-related research around participant recruitment, screening, enrollment and follow-up as assigned

 

Core Accountability & Responsibility:

  • Provides non-judgmental, voluntary and gender-sensitive counseling and additional resources around HIV prevention, care and treatment services, including gender affirming hormone treatment
  • Conduct client intake, periodic assessments, and care planning for clients and document all delivered services - obtain mental health, clinical care, public health scheme, or other services needed to improve the client’s physical and emotional health
  • Participate in program activities, including program promotion, online outreach, client recruitment, clinical supervision, etc.; Encourage the involvement of clients in other community activities which encourage understanding of HIV prevention, care and treatment and other transgender-related health matters
  • Complete administrative duties including filing, collating, stocking, recording results, supply inventory, daily computer data entry and other operational needs related to the case management efforts
  • Assist with participant recruitment, screening, enrollment and follow-up visits in transgender health research and adhere to organization’s research policies, regulations, GCP and HSP
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor degree in social work, psychology or a related field, or equivalent minimum 2-3 years of experience in HIV and AIDS
  • Case management and counseling experience preferred
  • Must be computer literate
  • Must possess knowledge of HIV transmission and issues related to risk behavior including sexual behaviors
  • Must be sensitive, friendly, and have the people skills to work with transgender clients and their partners, including those who are sex workers, youth, substance users, low-income individuals
