Duties and Qualifications
Organizational Setting and Work Relationships
The Senior Information Management Assistant assists in the production and dissemination of information on the population of concern, including but not limited to Protection and Programme information.
The position is supervised by a more senior position at the field level and receives functional guidance and support from IM specialists at country/regional and global level. Subject to the nature of the task/assignment, he/she will work independently on routine tasks, while will follow instructions of the supervisor for more complex issues. The position has no supervisory role. The incumbent may play a liaison role with the national and local authorities for gathering and exchange of data.

Operational Context
UNHCR’s vision is that by 2025, UNHCR is a trusted leader on data and information related to refugees and other affected populations, thereby enabling actions that protect, include and empower. The Data, Identity Management and Analysis Unit (DIMA) within the Bureau provides support and coordination to country operations within the region to facilitate registration, data and information management activities, including provision of setting up and maintaining information products.
The Senior Information Management Assistant will be an integral member of the DIMA unit and provide crucial data management and visualization support. This will require the incumbent to demonstrate basic data compilation and analysis skills and a good aptitude for identifying and maintaining data quality and consistency. The role will also need excellent communication skills and client orientation to be able to understand the data collection requirements of the various stakeholders in the Bureau and operations in the region and to interpret it into survey forms or dashboards. As data visualization and GIS are vital to the role, the incumbent will be expected to have the interest and aptitude to acquire these skills on the job.

Relevant Job Experience
Essential
Experience with handling confidential data and demonstrated understanding of different data collection methodologies.
Desirable
Successful participation in the Operational Data management Learning Programme. Experience in web design and software development is an asset. Experience with relevant software such as ArcGIS, Mapinfo, SPSS, EpiInfo6, SQL Server, and/or proGres. Experience with HTML, PHP, ASP and/or Java is an asset. Ability to formulate IM-related technical requirements and Operating Procedures.
