South East Asia Programme Coordinator EQUIP (maternity cover)

The purpose of the job is to help us achieve our aims and objectives through the implementation of a programme to use participatory research to better understand the access of minority and indigenous women to Sexual and Reproductive Health Services (SHRS) in Kachin and Northern Shan State of Myanmar and Ratanakiri/Mondulkiri Provinces in Cambodia. The post holder will also contribute to MRG’s core principles and strategy and help develop new programmes in the Asia region.

 

Job title:          South East Asia Programme Coordinator EQUIP (maternity cover)

Reports to:      Deputy Director

Salary:             Grade C, adjusted for cost of living in location

Location:         Thailand, Cambodia or Myanmar.  Location must have low risks of interference or interruptions, good internet access and good travel connections to programme countries. Post holder must be able to travel to project locations on work related visits without hindrance

Duration:       This is an 80% post (i.e. 4days per week).  This post will run from 24th February 2020 until the staff member on maternity leave returns to work. Handover from the post holder will need to take place prior to the start date.

Main duties and responsibilities

Planning

Develops and implements plans to deliver MRG’s programme entitled ‘Enhancing Quality and Universal access to Indigenous People’s reproductive healthcare (EQUIP)’ within the objectives set by the Deputy Director, in charge of overseeing the implementation of the entire project, providing supervision, advice and support to all other team members and partners. Contributes to the development and design of new programmes for additional work in the region and may then deliver new programmes if successfully developed and funded.

Programme Activity

Deliver work under MRG’s programme ‘‘Enhancing Quality and Universal access to Indigenous People’s reproductive healthcare (EQUIP)’. This will include:

  • Commissioning, reviewing and finalising baseline data studies
  • Supporting partners to design and run participatory research methods training events
  • Supporting partners to roll out a programme of participatory research on access to SRHS.
  • Drafting and or commissioning and or supporting partners working on briefings

Financial

  • Responsible for managing a budget up to/around £100,000 per annum.
  • Monitor spending and resolve any variances or budget issues.

Essential requirements:

  • A detailed knowledge of the current social and political context in South East Asia, in particular Cambodia and Myanmar, including the situation and needs of indigenous and minority communities in the area.
  • Good working knowledge of international human rights and minority rights.
  • 2 years experience of working on human rights (preferably minority or indigenous rights) in South East Asia with a similar level of responsibility to that of this post.
  • 1 year experience each of at least two out of the following four areas:
    -Community participatory research methods
  • – Designing and running training events
    – National human rights or health advocacy processes
    – Building networks and coalitions
  • 1 years experience working with local NGOs particularly overseeing financial and narrative reporting
  • 2 years experience successfully managing international projects including drawing up and managing budgets, monitoring, quality control, scheduling, and evaluation
  • 1 years experience managing a project funded by an international statutory donor, liaising with the donor, producing narrative and financial reports.
  • 2 years experience of work involving complex security settings
