Title: Intern – Programme Development
Organizational Section/Unit: UNODC Regional Office for Southeast Asia and the Pacific – Programme Development
Duty Station or Home-based: Bangkok, Thailand
Proposed Period: 4 - 6 months
Background of the internship:
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is a global leader in the fight against drugs, crime, terrorism and corruption. It is a lead provider of specialized assistance to Governments and provides support to reach their targets under the various Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It operates in all regions through an extensive network of Field Offices. The Regional Office for Southeast Asia and the Pacific (ROSEAP) delivers technical assistance in UNODC mandates areas through the Regional Programme and oversees all other offices of UNODC in Southeast Asia and the Pacific.
Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Programme Management Officer, the Intern – Programme Development provides ensuring high quality, accuracy and consistency of work.
The Intern – Programme Development works in close collaboration with the National Programme Officer (Gender and Human Rights) and the Associate Expert (JPO) in Transnational Organized Crimes as well as programme and project staff in ROSEAP, UNODC’s relevant regional country office (s), HQ as required to support the works of the Programme Development team.
Purpose of the internship:
The candidate/intern will gain both substantive and operational knowledge related to assigned topics and thematic areas of transnational organized crime, criminal justice and rules of law from UNODC perspective. In addition, the internship will help to provide a broad understanding of UNODC’s mandates, obtain diverse working experience in the UN system, and gain technical skills related to all the works of UNODC thematic areas, in line with UNODC Strategy 2021-2025, and achieve an understanding of UN-wide standards, including human rights, gender equality and disability inclusion, with a specific focus on Southeast Asia and the Pacific.

Financial Aspects:
The United Nations does not remunerate interns in any way. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, health insurance, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns will not be entitled to any compensation for travel arrangements to and from the work location. Interns do not receive a salary or emoluments from the United Nations.
Terms of Appointment:
Duration of the internship is four to six (4-6) months. Participating interns are required to work full-time during office hours. Time is allowed for outside research work and interviews.
