Job purpose

 

The post holder will be responsible for supporting the implementation of Scaling Up Parenting for Lifelong Health (PLH) in Thailand project activities* at the Peace Culture Foundation under the guidance of the Project Lead and Senior Technical Advisor. This role will involve active engagement in initiatives related to policy advocacy, research planning and dissemination, capacity building, knowledge exchange within Thailand as well as at international and regional levels, verbal and written communications with policymakers, parenting experts, and other key partners.

 

*Project activities are those overlapping initiatives covered by World Childhood Foundation funding for ‘Expanding the Impact for Parenting for Lifelong Health (PLH) on Violence against Children in Thailand and Southeast Asia,’ as well as LEGO Foundation funding for ‘Parenting within the Public Health System’ under the Global Parenting Initiative (GPI).

 

Main activities & responsibilities

 

  • Act as the focal point for implementation of project activities related to policy advocacy and capacity building, working in consultation with the Project Lead and Senior Technical Advisor, as well as in close collaboration with the Thai government and university stakeholders, and family beneficiaries in the target communities;
  • Actively contribute to the planning, monitoring, and evaluation of capacity building initiatives for the PLH Young Children and PLH digital strategies with Thai partners, especially Boromarajonani College of Nursing in Udon Thani;
  • Actively contribute to the planning, implementation, and dissemination of research activities as overseen by the Project Lead, with an emphasis on strategic planning for scale-up with study partners, utilizing research findings to inform policy advocacy and partnership development in Thailand;
  • Under the guidance of the Project Lead, engage in strategic planning and coordinate advocacy and knowledge exchange activities with other country teams in the GPI network, particularly those implementing PLH programmes in Southeast Asia (e.g., the Sub-Regional Learning Initiative funded by WCF);
  • Collaborate with the Project Coordinator to support the development of the online learning platform for the National Community of Practice on Positive Parenting, including drafting content when needed and incorporating timely updates on project activities;
  • Participate in and support the organization of regional meetings as well as the development of domestic and international networks under the Global Parenting Initiative (GPI) and the Global Initiative to Support Parents (GISP);
  • Actively participate in and contribute to Project Steering Committee meetings, partner training workshops and events, and team meetings, both online and in person;
  • If agreed on with UNICEF, lead the organization of a workshop on child rights and parenting for the ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children, in collaboration with the UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Regional Office;
  • Participate in GPI Advocacy Team meetings and work planning at the global level;
  • Actively support the administration of project finances in collaboration with the Project Lead, Project Coordinator, and the Project Accountant;
  • Manage and regularly report on activity schedule plans to the Project Lead;
  • Translate documents and presentations from Thai to English and English to Thai as required;
  • Support the Project Lead in the compilation of periodic and annual donor reports;
  • Domestic travel as and when required; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Support the development of new channels and fora for high level advocacy and capacity building with other project teams across the GPI, as well as UN organizations and agencies, NGOs, inter-governmental organizations, and academic institutions, in consultation with the Project Lead
  • Routinely and effectively communicate complex and conceptual ideas to a range of partners and audiences using a high level of skill and a range of media
  • Provide regular project updates to the Project Steering Committee in consultation with the Senior Technical Advisor
  • Provide regular updates to team members on work progress as well as seek clarification on one’s role and responsibilities from management when needed

Person specification

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in project management, advocacy, communications, social science research, and/or coordination
  • Professional experience in the subject areas of positive parenting, violence against children, child protection, family welfare, and/or child rights
  • Strong leadership, planning, organizational, administrative, and logistical coordination skills
  • Experience in managing or contributing to qualitative or quantitative research projects
  • Experience in organizing high level in person and online meetings and events
  • Experience in working on community development projects
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Dropbox, and Google Docs
  • Ability to work independently as well as in collaboration with local team members and international partners
  • Ability to manage time, work schedules, and deadlines effectively
  • Ability to balance the pressures of research, administrative demands, and competing deadlines
  • Honesty, integrity, professionalism, and willingness to work overtime when necessary
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Acceptable proficiency in written and verbal communication skills in Thai
  • M.A. or equivalence in the Medical Sciences or Social Sciences
  • Thai nationality

The Peace Culture Foundation (PCF) is a non-governmental organization established in 2016 and based in Chiang Mai. Our objectives are to advocate for peace and to prevent violence through programmes for children, youth, families, and schools; robust research; aikido training; and other community-focused service projects. We collaborate with other like-minded organizations and institutions on projects at both the local and international levels (www.peaceculturefoundation.org).

 

PCF seeks to appoint a Policy Advocacy and Capacity Building Expert for the ‘Parenting within the Public Health System’ project in Thailand under the Global Parenting Initiative. The Global Parenting Initiative is an international collaboration led by the University of Oxford. It is being implemented in six countries in Asia and Africa with an emphasis on supporting healthy child development and preventing violence against children through evidence-based parenting programmes.

 

This is a full-time contract position for up to 2 years. The post holder can work from home in Bangkok,  Chiang Mai, or Udon Thani and has the flexibility to work from the PCF offices in Hang Dong, Chiang Mai, when needed.

 

 

Details for applicants

The salary for this post is set in US Dollars and paid in Thai Baht according to the prevailing bank exchange rate. The salary range for this post is US$ 1,965 - 2,168 per month (approximately 68,000 – 75,000 THB per month). Agreed salary will be commensurate with experience.

 

Benefits include social security and 20 days personal leave per year. Please note that health insurance is not included in the benefits package.

 

Starting date:  Late February/March 2022.
