    Project Officer (Disability and Social Inclusion Project)

                    Vacancy Announcement

 

Position: Project Officer for Disability and Social Inclusion (1 open position)

Handicap International (HI) seeks a Disability and Social Inclusion Project Officer for its Disability and Social Inclusion project based in Mae Sot, Tak province, with frequent travel to Mae La camp Tak province.

 

 Closing date: 15th  December, 2017

Handicap International is an international non-governmental, non-religious, non-political and non-profit making organization specialised in the field of disability. It works alongside people with disabilities, offering them assistance and supporting them in their efforts to become self-reliant.  Since its creation, the organisation has set up programmes in approximately 60 countries worldwide and intervened in many emergency situations.  

 

Handicap International in Thailand is currently supporting projects along the Thailand - Burma border focusing on the following:

  • Rehabilitation Project: provision of functional rehabilitation services for persons with disabilities or impairments in 5 temporary shelters (Tak and Mae Hong Son provinces)
  • Disability and Social Inclusion Project: Social inclusion of People with Disabilities and mainstreaming disability into humanitarian in 5 temporary shelters (Tak and Mae Hong Son provinces)
  • Mine Risk Education Project: raising awareness activities on the risk of mines and explosive remnants of war are implemented in 9 temporary shelters (Tak, Mae Hong Son, Ratchaburi and Kanchanabui provinces)
  • Growing Together Project : in 5 temporary shelters (Tak and Mae Hong Son provinces) focusing on enabling vulnerable children including children with disabilities, to develop their full potential on an equal basis with other children and acquire fundamental educational and social skills, as well as support to their family members and/or caregivers

 

Disability and Social Inclusion Project Officer‘s general mission:

The Disability and Social Inclusion Project Officer under the direct supervision of Disability and Social Inclusion Team Leader remains responsible to implement Disability mainstreaming and inclusion activities for People with Disabilities and strengthen the overall action of HI in the refugee camps, along the Thai Burma Border.

 

Disability and Social Inclusion Project Officer’s Responsibilities

Responsibility 1: Plan, monitor, implement the Disability and Social Inclusion (DSI) activities and ensure care quality

 Aim: Ensure the activities are implemented on time with the clinical quality of services

 

Responsibility 2: Empower, build capacity and coach camp staffs, community staff and for other agencies on DSI activities.

Aim: Build capacity of DSI community staff to be able to provide the quality of community DSI services.

 

Responsibility 3: Ensure communication, networking and coordination at field level for DSI activities.

Aim: Under the supervision of his/her line manager, ensure implementation of good practices and good communication.

 

Others: delegation

  • In case of any vacancy or specific temporary absence within the Disability and Social Inclusion team, the Project Officer will be requested on a temporary basis to ensure continuity of activities of the vacant person.
  • Edit translation documents/IEC tools
  • To be an Interpreter when donors and guest visited the camp

 

Qualifications required:

Education: University degree in the field of community development, social work, sociology or related field.

Knowledge and skills required:

  • Minimum of 2 years practical experience working with NGO's or grass root organizations implementing activities.
  • Practical experience in working with vulnerable groups and local authorities is mandatory, specially people with disability, especially people with disability
  • Experience in conducting trainings (material development, training facilitation) and on-the-job capacity building of community volunteers.

Other qualifications:

  • Language - Good level of written, reading and spoken Karen or Burmese and English. Knowledge of Thai will be an advantage.
  • Active listening, sense of negotiation, self-initiative, intellectual flexibility, adaptation skills, communication skills, ability to create team spirit and to support team building, autonomy in work and experience in accompanying a team and finding practical solutions.
