Diakonia is a Swedish non-profit and non-political organization for international development cooperation and humanitarian assistance. Diakonia supports more than 400 partner organisations in over 30 countries – in Africa, Asia. Latin America and the Middle East.

The base for Diakonia’s work is people’s will to improve and change the world. Fundamental thematic areas for Diakonia are democracy, gender equity, human rights, conflict and justice and social and economic justice.

The Asia Regional Office is located in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Diakonia Asia Regional Office is recruiting a Regional Advisor on Communication

 

Placement: Chiang Mai, Thailand

Duration: 2 years

Planned starting date: March 2018

Report to: Regional Manager

 

Are you the one we´re looking for?

We believe that you are a skilled and experienced communicator, passionate about creating engaging and effective communication and in getting to know your target audiences. You are used to work independently within a given framework and take responsibility for achieving results. You have very good planning, organizing, reporting and writing skills. As this position includes training and supervising colleagues in communication, storytelling and social media you need the capability to be pedagogic and inspirational. You like working with others to reach common goals, as well as taking own initiatives and work independently. Your goal should be to make the work of Diakonia and partners visible, and attract existing and new donors.

 

The work is under delegation and supervision by the Regional Manager and part of the regional team.

 

Main Responsibilities

  • Update and facilitate implementation of communication plans for Diakonia in Asia.
  • Produce information and fundraising material from Diakonia’s work in Asia in close cooperation with the country offices and the department for communication and fundraising at Diakonia’s Head Office in Stockholm.
  • Strengthen and implement communication aspects in the fundraising and advocacy work in the region and to target groups in Sweden.
  • Coordinate and facilitate Diakonia’s external communication in Asia.
  • Build capacity of staff at the Country offices in communication.
  • Coordinate and serve as link between Diakonia Head Office, Regional office and Country offices on designated tasks.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Higher education in information/communication or similar.
  • Experience from leading or coordinating communication work within an organisation, company or other institution.
  • Long experience of writing and editing texts for different channels and target groups in English.
  • Knowledge of web publishing and social media
  • Good knowledge of photography
  • Good interpersonal skills and experience from working in a multicultural setting.

Competence

  • Strategic and analytical ability.
  • Personal maturity and social skills.
  • Excellent English writing and speaking skills

Merits

  • Experience of working as a journalist
  • Knowledge of Diakonia’s thematic areas and development issues.
  • Experience of popular movement work.
  • Experience in donor relations, resource mobilization.
  • Experience of graphic design and/or film.
  • Knowledge of Swedish.

This position is open to Thai nationals and Thailand based expatriates.
