Malteser International is a German non-governmental organization providing humanitarian assistance and development aid for people in need in over 20 countries. Malteser International is currently working with temporary refugee shelters in Sob-Moei district, Mae Hong Son province in Thailand. With funding provided by the European Union for the project “Inclusive Futures: Phased integration of refugee services and Economic inclusion In Thailand’s system”. Our office located in Mae Sariang, is looking for efficient, motivated and experienced individuals for the position as MEAL Assistant
MEAL Assistant (1 position)
Duty Station: Mae Sariang town, Mae Hong Son province
Duration: 15.04.2027 (with possible extension)
Work locations: Mae Sariang, Sob Moei District (Mae La Ma Luang and Mae La Oon Temporary shelters)
Salary Range: 20,000 + benefits
Main Responsibilities/Duties
- Support the MEAL Officer, in coordination with relevant project staff, to ensure timely and quality data collection for surveys, assessments, monitoring activities, and other MEAL exercises.
- Assist the MEAL Officer in implementing MI accountability mechanisms and information-sharing systems in temporary shelters and other project target locations.
- Conduct regular field visits to support and monitor data collection, feedback collection, information sharing, and implementation of accountability mechanisms.
- Work closely with shelter-based MEAL staff and relevant project teams to collect, document, and report feedback, complaints, and suggestions from the affected population in a timely manner.
- Assist the MEAL Officer in reviewing, cleaning, and entering survey and monitoring data using KOBO Toolbox and other relevant tools.
- Support checking the completeness and accuracy of collected data and report any identified issues to the MEAL Officer.
- Assist the MEAL Officer in organizing and conducting MEAL-related training, orientation, awareness-raising sessions, and campaigns for staff, volunteers, and target populations.
- Assist with translation of MEAL-related documents and interpretation between English and Karen, as required.
- Submit a monthly activity report to the MEAL Officer, highlighting key activities, findings, challenges, feedback received, and follow-up actions.
- Submit activity reports using the prescribed format after conducting or participating in shelter-level meetings, training, awareness-raising activities, monitoring visits, and other MEAL activities
Essential Qualifications/Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in social science, statistic or equivalent discipline
- Candidates with a relevant diploma or equivalent professional experience may also be considered
- At least 1 year of relevant work experience in MEAL, monitoring and evaluation, data collection, community engagement, accountability, or a related field.
- Previous experience working with NGOs/INGOs, humanitarian or development program, preferably in refugee, migrant, temporary shelter, or other vulnerable community settings.
- Experience in conducting field monitoring, surveys, assessments, interviews, focus group discussions, or community consultations is an advantage.
- Experience using KOBO Toolbox or other digital data-collection tools is an advantage.
- Fluency in speaking, reading, and writing Karen.
- Basic communication skills in English or Burmese.
- Good skills in data collection, data entry, and data checking, and basic data management
