The Tea Leaf Center
The Tea Leaf Center is a social enterprise research and training consulting firm based in Chiang Mai, Thailand. We support locally-led research by providing tailored coaching and training, on-call support, and platforms to connect research.
The Tea Leaf Center was registered as a company limited in Thailand in 2019. Since its formation, the Tea Leaf Center has conducted evaluations and other research for international and local NGOs and conducted trainings on writing and research for local organizations working in environmental conservation, land rights, public health, migrant education, human rights and other areas. We have also worked with a local university to support quality academic research in Myanmar.
The Tea Leaf Center is hiring a Finance and Administrative Assistant. This position will support the Tea Leaf Center in the smooth operation of our office, including helping with basic finance tasks and supporting coordination and organization of schedules and other office organization. This position will be full-time and based in the Tea Leaf Center office in San Sai Noi, Chiang Mai.
The ideal candidate will be well-organized and responsive, able to communicate well with different stakeholders and manage their own tasks and deadlines. Training will be provided, and the Tea Leaf Center office environment promotes learning and collaboration. This position will work closely with the Executive Director and external accountants, who can provide guidance on tasks when needed.
The position will offer many opportunities for learning and growth; including building relationships with new clients and partners, and developing new skills. This position has the potential for long-term development and opportunities to gain more responsibilities (along with respective increases in pay). The position will involve a one-year contract with a three-month probation period.
Organizing receipts and entering them into expense report formats;
Filing monthly withholding tax and social security payments;
Purchasing office supplies as needed;
Paying utility bills;
Managing meeting schedules;
Problem-solving and contacting outside suppliers/contractors, when necessary (e.g., building maintenance);
Assisting with travel and other logistical arrangements;
Helping to communicate with government departments when necessary (e.g., Social Security and Revenue Department);
Tracking and sending invoices for payments from clients;
Uploading files and videos to our online platform;
Other related duties, as assigned.
Experience working or volunteering with local or international foundations, non-profit organizations or social enterprises.
Able to learn on the job and adapt to new challenges.
Strong organizational skills
Strong communication skills
English and Thai (spoken and written).
Commitment to empowering local communities and civil society organizations.
Demonstrated ability to work respectfully and inclusively with people of diverse backgrounds, including ethnic and religious minorities and other marginalized populations.
Basic knowledge of Excel spreadsheets
Conversational in another regional language, including Burmese, Shan, Karen (Sgaw or Pwo), or other.
Have basic knowledge in photo and/or video editing software.
Experience in helping with online trainings, webinars, meetings or other activities.
The Research and Training Assistant will receive a monthly salary (to be negotiated based on experience).
