U.S. Exchange Opportunity for Civil Society Professionals Ages 25-35 Program SummaryWe are seeking emerging leaders that currently work in civil society organizations. Because this is a program for professionals, students are not eligible to apply. The required age range for participants is 25-to-35-years of age.
During the five-week program in the United States, participants will gain firsthand knowledge of how organizations and institutions operate, while also participating in site visits and specially-designed seminars. An important part of the program is a Fellowship. Participants will be matched with a similar organization in Montana and work with an American counterpart for one month. Participants will spend one month in the state of Montana and one week in Washington, D.C.
Thai participants may also be asked to host a U.S. participant at their place of work. That individual will be your Fellowship partner during your U.S. stay. A selected number of American participants will travel overseas to engage with you and your counterparts on economic and business-related issues in your country. Because 24 Asian Fellows will be selected, and only 10-14 of their partners will travel to Asia, not every Asian participant will host an American at their place of work. However, you must state your willingness to host a U.S. participant on your application.
For the fourth year, the Mansfield Center honored to host the Professional Fellows Program of the U.S. Department of State. The focus for 2016 is Civil Society Development. Selected Southeast Asian applicants will host U.S. partners in their country in August 2016 or January 2016. Only 10-14 U.S. partners will travel to Asia, so this will not be a one-to-one exchange. Not each Asian participant will host a U.S. participant, but each Asian applicant must agree to do so in case they are chosen to host a U.S. participant
Promote mutual understanding and lasting partnerships between emerging leaders from foreign countries and the U.S. While the program focuses on 24 participants from Burma/Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam and 10-14 participants from the U.S., the program is designed to have a ripple effect to promote such benefits throughout engaged organizations and communities.
